Gulbrandsen Chemicals a manufacturer of chemical intermediates, fine chemicals, and catalysts for process industry requirements has a full time opening for Chemical Operator.
Chemical Operators will enter a training certification program once hired which allows superior candidates to increase their hourly pay rate from $14.50 to $22.00 within 18 months.
Chemical Operators routinely average greater than $50,000 annually with overtime.

PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: Responsible for performing the activities related to daily operations of the Anhydrous Chemical Production facility. Will be required to gain understanding of the chemical and material handling system. Responsible for ensuring safety, quality and for meeting customer demands as required. Will work overtime as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist Lead Operator with daily plant operations
- Serve as back-up to Lead Operator for emergency response
- Stock chemical reactors with raw materials
- Housekeeping and cleaning of production facility
- Perform Emergency Response scenarios involving the use of self contained breathing apparatus and chemical suits
- Routinely work in stressful situations involving emergency responding to unusual situations
- Forklift operations
QUALIFICATIONS
Technical
- Prior chemical plant experience preferred
- Must have or acquire a working knowledge of facility operations.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of work hazards, safety procedures, and plant safety matters.
- Must be able to work as part of a self focused team.
Physical Capabilities
- Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods under uncomfortable conditions and in all types of weather, as necessary.
- Ability to work in hot environments.
- Ability to work in outside environments (rain, cold, wind).
- Stand for long periods
- Stand on hard surface: including concrete, tile, metal grating
- Walking distances
- Reaching with hands and arms
- Using sledge hammers to repeatedly strike metal tanks
- Using crowbars and tools to loosen and remove chemicals from inside tanks
- Use hand/eye coordination for detail work
- Climbing stairs-cases of up to 50 flights several times daily.
- Climbing ladders
- Maintain balance around vats of molten aluminum
- Work while standing on an uneven surface
- Twisting of body while handling 30 lb aluminum ingots
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Bending
- Talk or hear in noisy conditions
- Driving (forklift)
- Breathe without difficulty while wearing a respirator
WEIGHT HANDLING
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Carry up to 50 pounds
- Throw up to 50 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Some work is performed outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions. Other work is performed indoors at the chemical production facilities. Work performed in this job will place the employee at risk of exposure to chemical hazards. Employee will also be exposed to the following conditions.
- Temperatures routinely exceeding 100 degrees F
- Noise: hearing protection required
- Low lighting
- Chemicals: protective clothing required
- Dust: respiratory protection required
- Fumes/odors: respiratory protection required
- Smoke: respiratory & eye protection required
Other Capabilities
- Must have good communications skills
- Flexibility to be available for emergency call-ins during off time.
- Reading ability to read and interpret standard operating procedures, manuals and other materials pertaining to facility operations, equipment, and systems.
- 12-Hr Shift Work Schedule: 2-3-2-2-3-2 (Days and Nights, ~3 month rotations)
