CHIEF AUTO POUND SUPERVISOR
DEPARTMENT OF STREETS & SANITATION

Number of Positions: 1
Starting Salary: $73,788.00
Supervises a staff of fifty-five employees and oversees all City of Chicago Auto Pound operations including contractual services related to Auto Pound management and towing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assures proper staffing levels at all Auto Pounds which operate on a 24/7 schedule
- Assures compliance with Federal, State and Municipal laws concerning the inventory, release, notification and disposal of impounded vehicles
- Assists with the formulation of the annual Auto Pound operating budget to ensure facilities are adequately supplied for the performance of services
- Investigates, reviews, reconciles and reports on Auto Pound activities including citizen complaints and claims.
- Responds to public inquiries and comments regarding program concerns and complaints.
- Advises management on legal issues related to bureau operations as they are affected by local, state, or federal laws, statues, or contracts.
- Evaluates bureau compliance with local, state, and federal laws, ensuring a sound legal basis.

Days/Hours: 8:00 – 4:00 Monday - Friday

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of work experience in inventory management or vehicle towing and impoundment, of which at least two years are in a supervisory role OR five years of work experience in operations relating to vehicle inventory, vehicle rentals or fleet management, of which at least two years are in a supervisory role; Valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required.
KNOWLEDGE
Considerable knowledge of:
- towing operations
- supervisory principles, methods, practices, and procedures
Moderate knowledge of:
- budgetary and fiscal management practices
Some knowledge of:
- applicable City programs (e.g., Streets and Sanitation) and their funding guidelines
- geographical locations within the city and applicable facilities
- use of safety equipment and protective gear
- applicable emergency operations
Knowledge of applicable City and department policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and ordinances
NOTE: You must provide your valid U.S. driver's license at time of processing.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires an applicant to successfully complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
- Proficiency in knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing impounding vehicles
- Previous work experience performing audits related to the inventorying, release and disposal of vehicles
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software
- Law Degree
