Reporting directly to the Vice President, the Chief Estimate is the lead member of the estimating and pre-construction team. This individual manages and coordinates the team, and other resources to perform the estimating function.
Responsibilities:
- Perform quantity take-offs, analysis, estimates, and studies for all items incorporated.
- Develop clear and accurate scope documents for design/build projects.
- Take lead role in lump sum bids.
- Review drawing, specifications and all other construction documents. Make senior management aware of design-related problems, completeness of documents and other potential risks.
- Work in conjunction with applicable stakeholders to ensure that detailed general conditions/requirements (GC/GR) estimates are prepared, and reviewed as needed.
- Responsible for value engineering process during preconstruction for relevant projects.
- Communicates with owners, partners, representatives, architects, and consultants.
- Engage in presentations as necessary.
- Mentor and develop the estimating team.
- Establish and cultivate subcontractor and vendor relationships.
- Analyze and assemble cost data, unit prices, historical costs, and information that can be developed and used as a database for future projects.
- Evaluate and analyze subcontractor proposals.
- Maintain strong and positive relationships with operations and field teams.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in construction estimating, minimum 5 years in lead estimator role.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials and building codes.
- Strong understanding of contractual agreements.
- Ability to work with minimum information and quickly develop an understanding of the owner/architect requirements.
- Strong leadership, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
