SUMMARY:
Meets face to face with each assigned client to provide Mental Health Rehabilitation services such as inclusive of anger management, social, communication and daily living skills. Completion of written reports, letters and plans. Initiate verbal communication with clients, families, CFT, and shows ability to engage formal/informal support on behalf of clients and their families. Able to establish and maintain appropriate rapport with children, adolescents, families, inter and intra-agency personnel, and regulatory bodies.
JOB DUTIES:
- Adheres to the Los Angeles County vision, practice principals, and steps of the Child and Family Team (CFT) process.
- Contributes to the development of the Child and Family Plan of Care (POC) and provides strength-based interventions to the client and family in a timely and professional manner.
- Attends and participates in regularly scheduled Child and Family Team (CFT) Meetings.
- Works collaboratively with the client, family, Therapist, identified DCFS and/or Department of Probation personnel, school staff, and all other inter and intra-agency personnel in order to provide services identified in the POC, as well as Targeted Case Management (TCM), Rehabilitative and Crisis Intervention services in accordance with the Client Treatment Plan (CTP).
- Meets face-to-face with each assigned client to provide Mental Health Rehabilitation services that are individualized, within his/her scope of practice, and consistent with the Department of Mental Health and the Haynes Family of Programs’ Policy and Procedure Manual standards and guidelines. Such services are inclusive of anger management, social, communication and daily living skills.
- Adheres to Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LAC-DMH) and Haynes Family of Programs’ Mental Health Policy and Procedures for the billing and documentation practices related to any and all services provided under Early Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) funding, and maintains productivity expectations.
- Demonstrates professional and effective communication abilities, including the completion of written reports, letters and plans, initiating verbal communications with clients, families, the CFT and inter and intra-agency personnel, and exhibits an ongoing ability to engage formal and informal supports on behalf of clients and families.
- Able to establish and maintain appropriate rapport with children, adolescents, families, inter and intra-agency personnel, and regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrates an ability to work professionally and independently with limited supervision, as well as an ability to exercise professional discretion and independent judgment based on training, education, experience and personal creativity.
- Provides services to clients and families in a manner that is culturally competent and adhere to the philosophy, mission and vision of the Haynes Family of Programs. Understands and upholds best practices and trauma-informed services in an effort to meet the needs of abused, neglected and struggling children/families, and inspire the qualities necessary for children and families to succeed.
- Understands and utilizes knowledge of the needs of abused children and the qualities necessary for children and families to succeed.
- Assumes responsibility for on-call duty assignments and attending to crisis intervention services.
- Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of client services, best practices, coordination of care, risk assessment and planning, and intervention strategies via continued education, workshops, seminars and/or specialized trainings so as to remain current and proficient in factors/interventions relevant to the client and family population.
- Maintains client confidentiality in accordance to agency Policy and Procedures, respective county guidelines and any applicable state regulations. Also adheres to any and all county/state Mandated Reporting obligations.
- Attends and participates in regularly scheduled individual supervision, client-centered group supervision and Mental Health and agency-wide staff meetings/trainings.
- Performs any other relevant duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or Director of Mental Health.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
In the course of performing this job, the incumbent typically spends time standing, walking on sloped/hilly areas of campus, carrying, driving, lifting (up to 40 pounds), listening, speaking, reaching, writing, and participating in restraint procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s of Arts/Science (M.A./M.S.) Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field plus two (2) years of experience in a mental health setting as a specialist in the fields of physical restoration, social adjustment, or vocational adjustment OR
- Bachelor’s of Arts/Science (B.A./B.S.) Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field plus four (4) years of experience in a mental health setting as a specialist in the fields of physical restoration, social adjustment, or vocational adjustment OR
- Associates of Applied Science’s Degree (A.A.) plus six (6) years of experience in a mental health setting as a specialist in the fields of physical restoration, social adjustment, or vocational adjustment required.
- Experience working high-risk children, adolescents, adults and/or families within the, Mental Health, Educational, Child Welfare and/or Juvenile Probation systems required.
- Availability to be on-call for crisis related services required.
- Bi-lingual/Bi-literate in Spanish highly preferred.
- Valid California Driver’s License and proof of Auto Insurance required.
- Must fulfill all requirements of employment, including clearance of all required background records (e.g. Department of Justice, Child Abuse, California Community Care Licensing, County Sanction List, etc.), professional reference checks, physical examination, and drug testing.
