The City of Aiken is seeking an Engineer to join our Engineering & Utilities Department.

  • Oversees the routine operations and ongoing coordination of the division with a teamwork approach, and timely response to a request from local citizens/key stakeholders, City Council, City Management, and the Engineering division staff per federal/state regulations and City codes/policies/procedures/design standards where applicable.
  • Provides indirect and/or direct supervision to engineering; monitors and inspects work in progress to ensure continuity and timely completion of assignments; reviews and evaluates employee performance.
  • Keeps the Director informed of project updates; attends City Council meetings as needed.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates the public utility services provided for citizens; evaluates and identifies present and future community needs; formulates long and short-range public utility plans; meets with developers and citizens regarding new water and sewer services.
  • Oversees the City's compliance with DHEC
  • Develops and manages the implementation of the City water/sewer/storm water utility infrastructure rehabilitation strategic plan.
  • Supervises the drafting services of Engineering for other City departments and engineering projects; administers building and grading permits.
  • Manages budgetary funds for several divisions by identifying and evaluating present/future budgetary needs, establishes priorities, formulates long/short range plans, research, and develops new strategies.
  • Serves as Department Head in the Director's absence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university. (Master's degree preferred)
  • Seven years progressively responsible civil engineering experience, along with Municipal Public Works projects.
  • Three years of supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid state driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the state of South Carolina.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34.94 - $49.89 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
