About The Job:
The Claims Trainee works to acquire knowledge, experience, skills, and business acumen in Claims. Completes educational, work, and relationship building experiences (works with others in the company and within the Claims department). Responsible for participating and engaging in all assignments/experiences, soliciting feedback regarding performance, and closing gaps in his/her knowledge, skills, and business acumen. In addition, establishes a strong foundation by building relationships and identifying resources that will help them in their career. The Claims Trainee is working towards being assigned a professional position with Claims. The timing of this assignment will vary based on the Trainee’s development. The assignment is not guaranteed, but is based on the Trainee’s performance, development, and feedback from others.
Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
- Works to acquire the knowledge, experience, skills, and business acumen in Claims. This work and the trainee’s development is all towards the goal of becoming a professional in the Claim department.
- Assists leader, team, or business unit with work assigned to them. This often includes, but is not limited to, educational opportunities, project work and coverage of day-to-day activities.
- Develops business acumen through interactions and shadowing with other professionals.
- Attends business unit meetings as assigned.
- Creates and delivers presentations as assigned.
- Prepares for and engages in one-on-one, on-line, and on-the-job learning/educational assignments/ experiences.
- Develops operating knowledge of Westfield Claims standardized hardware, software programs, third-party software, and processing procedures.
- Works toward developing an understanding of key concepts and appropriate business skill application through active participation and engagement in observation and practice activities.
- Develops operating knowledge of Westfield’s claims guidelines, processes, and indemnity tools.
- Solicits reinforcing and constructive feedback from leader, peer coaches and others in the organization and incorporates feedback into development.
- Identifies resources, best practices, and external networking opportunities to monitor pertinent industry activity and trends. Shares information gathered with others in the department.
- Maintains awareness, understanding, and compliance with internal policies and procedures, laws, and regulations appropriate for this position.
Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)
- 6+ months of work experience (e.g. internship, summer job, part-time work, full-time work).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills resulting in the ability to interact with all levels of management and employee population.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience working independently and within a team environment.
- Experience managing changing priorities and multiple assignments.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Excel or transferable software packages.
- Holds (or has ability to obtain) and maintains appropriate adjuster licensing and certification(s) in assigned territories.
- Ability to travel, including overnight business trips as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience.

- Ability to work effectively in the following work environments: an office, a home, and/or a hybrid of both for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
- Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
- Ability to travel as required.
