Under the local direction of the site VP of Operations, and the broader direction of Spaulding Rehabilitation Network (SRN) Clinical and IT leadership, the Clinical Informatics Specialist will

  • Fulfill the role of central point of contact for all site-based clinical disciplines (MDs/Nursing, Therapy, Ancillaries, Support Staff), integrating understanding of organizational policies/standards; clinical experience and knowledge of EMR and other Clinical Information Systems (CIS*) to support and improve patient care clinical workflow and related processes throughout SRN.
  • Collaborate with other SRN Informatics Specialists, Information Systems CBAs (Clinical Business Analysts), Clinical Leadership and other stakeholders to achieve a high degree of workflow process standardization and staff competency in the administration of safe, compliant care utilizing Clinical Information Systems (CIS)*.
  • Identify, collect, and process data to support and improve end users’ clinical practice; manage and report findings to administration and help to integrate into staff education; and serve as an extension of the information systems department, collaborating on CIS* issues that impact clinical practice.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders as new applications are developed, tested and implemented, and also act as a Credentialed Trainer across various Partners eCare (PeC) applications, will also train on other CIS*.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary contact / support for clinicians at SRN site(s) on EMR and other CIS* system functionality.
  • Acts as a liaison between site clinical departments for CIS* related issues and workflow needs
  • Collaborate with SRN Information Systems Clinical Business Analyst (CBA) and Informatics Leads to troubleshoot complex issues; and participate in the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Assists with coordinating and engaging clinical groups, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals and operational leaders to ensure that CIS* clinical content meets functional, workflow, safety, regulatory and process requirements
  • Support site needs related to CIS* use including chart audits, staff inservices/retrainings, and regular meetings and communication with clinical departments (MDs, Nurses, Ancillaries).
  • Participate in CIS* data/analytics analyses including report identification, scoping and recommendations.
  • Provide CIS* expertise in quality reviews (ex/ SOR and RL Solution investigations) accreditation surveys, and DPH/regulatory audits and investigations
  • Identify and report CIS* workflow and functionality findings into site-based and SRN-wide collaborative / governance groups to support process improvement and standardization strategies.
  • In collaboration with SRN Informatics Leads, support process for Epic application enhancement requests to PeC to ensure EMR meets clinical needs of the site and levels of care.
  • Perform CIS* system testing to ensure systems meet implementation goals.
  • Participate as needed as subject matter expert on PeC Enterprise Expert Panels, Clinical Content Groups, etc.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to inform optimal CIS* clinical content development and maintenance.
  • Assist in management and tracking of CIS* related clinical hardware (ie: glucometers, nurse call phones, etc.)
  • Understand and educate staff as needed on CIS* use, minor software updates and major software upgrades.
  • Maintain Credentialed Trainer designation, knowledge and relationships to perform PeC training for new hire onboarding and perform staff supplemental training related to *CIS updates, enhancements, implementations, etc.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to PeC training curricula and ensure accuracy and relevance of curricula modifications.
  • Develop and implement new training materials as needed related to PeC clinical documentation.
  • Travel as needed to fulfill Clinical Informatic Specialists needs SRN.
  • Additional department, organization, or SRN activities are completed per established objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • CIS = Clinical Information Systems, including Epic, eCare complementary applications, and site-owned Clinical Information Systems


Education/Degree

Required

  • Clinical Licensed Degree - this postion requires current/active Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare

Experience

Required

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a rehabilitation setting required
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with an EMR
  • Participation in education or staff development
  • Experience with balancing multiple projects and project teams

Preferred

  • Advanced proficiency with Epic and other core information systems
  • Practicing clinician or similar clinical role desired
  • Understanding of clinical operations and related business processes
  • Knowledge of clinical care processes across disciplines and across the care continuum

Licensure

  • Current clinical licensure required (This position requires current/active RN license)

Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, etc.)

Required

  • High proficiency with standard office technologies and software, with demonstrated ability to learn new software.
  • High proficiency with use of electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication skills including strong verbal and interpersonal skills to contribute as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently and effectively develop, maintain, and manage relationships.
  • Self-directed initiative to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
