The Per Diem CLS will support the operations of our in-house laboratory. The position will work as needed by the laboratory staff (to cover Lab Manager time off). The Per Diem CLS will oversee specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting.
As a Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) - Per Diem, you will:
- Work in a fast paced, customer focused, and challenging environment
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
- Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
- Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
- Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors or unusual results
- Provide guidance to technical staff with the analysis and interpretation of final results
- Perform new test procedures and/or methods and provide feedback based on your findings
- Assist with training and orientation of new employees as needed
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
- To support risk and quality management by proactively communicating identified risks to supervisor in order to minimize risk when possible.
- Comply with PPPSGVs Code of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and to act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations.
- Guaranteed 8 hours per pay period
We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Master’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Certifications: N/A
- Licenses: CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist category or sub-specialty preferred
- Furnishing License Required: N/A
- If bachelor’s degree: at least 4 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing within the specialty of microbiology with a minimum of 6 months experience in high complexity testing within the subspecialty of bacteriology.
- If master’s degree: at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing within the specialty of microbiology with a minimum of 6 months experience in high complexity testing within the subspecialty of bacteriology.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise, and provide leadership to a diverse staff and customer population.
- Ability to communicate and work directly with clients, physicians, staff, managers, and department heads.
- Ability to research and resolve problems in pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic areas of laboratory testing services.
- Experience and knowledge of Orchard Harvest LIS (Lab Information System) and Hologic Panther Plus instrument preferred.
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet.
- Willingness and ability to adapt to change including advances in technology.
