Quartz is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Management Team. The Clinical Pharmacist position is responsible for performing a variety of activities associated with managing coverage of medications under the pharmacy and medical benefits for our customers. These include development, implementation and management of medication use policies and the formulary, participation in day-to-day operational aspects of managing benefits, and provision of support to various departments within Quartz.

Responsibilities:
  • Benefit Management Services & Clinical Operations:
    • Participate in process to evaluate medication exception requests for coverage of non-formulary or restricted medications and make decisions based on the patient’s clinical situation, relevant policies, and the patient’s specific benefits, in accordance with CMS and NCQA standards. This may include evaluation and making determinations on weekends and holidays.
    • Participate in the analysis of medications for Quartz Health Insurance Drug Formulary to include critical evaluation of drug literature and FDA data, consultation with experts, consensus building amongst practitioners, analysis of impact on relevant populations, consideration of utilization management tools available, and incorporation of economic data.
    • Participate in the development, implementation, and measurement of clinical practice guidelines and quality programs, including drug-based (prescribing) guidelines, and disease-state-based guidelines.
    • Serve as subject matter expert and provide expertise and assistance to Quartz departments.
  • Clinical and Financial Management
    • Participate in the development, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of drug policies related to the coverage of medications for Quartz.
    • Work with Quartz’s claims processors and other necessary vendors to implement, QA (quality assurance), and monitor drug policy and benefits changes for pharmacy benefits and medical benefits.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or PharmD degree
  • Completion of an ASHP Accredited Residency training program preferred
  • 1+ years of clinical patient care and prescription orders management experience
  • 1+ years of managed care or pharmacy benefit management experience
  • 3+ years of institutional experience (hospital or integrated health system) or completion of an ASHP accredited residency training program
  • Ability to learn computer and application skills as applicable to role
  • Ability to interact and work around people, effective communication skills, and listen empathetically
  • Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work
  • Ability to make judgements in demanding situations
  • Ability to logically organize details
  • Comfortable accepting responsibility for medium to large scale projects involving multiple resources and spanning many months from start to finish
  • License or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in state of WI
  • License in other state to support regulatory compliance for Quartz may be required after hire
This position can work 100% remotely or from our office in Madison, WI in a hybrid or full-time on-site arrangement, if preferred. Based upon candidate qualifications, in-person training at our Madison, WI office may be required. Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.
