Clinical Registered Dietitian

Reports to: Director of Food is Medicine Initiatives


Position Overview

The Clinical Dietitian will focus on the identification and implementation of -informed nutrition education curricula; provide individual and group nutrition education and counseling for various initiatives, some of which include research studies. The RD will demonstrate a commitment to facilitating and building sustainable healthy eating habits within the community that support the OFS mission and goals.

We provide food and services to 200,000 people every month.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Assist with conceptualization, development, and implementation of initiatives as they pertain to research, clinical nutrition education, community nutrition education, and .
  • Conduct appropriate nutrition assessments; organize and provide evidence-based nutrition intervention, counseling, and education for participants in community-based Food is Medicine initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team and initiative partners to coordinate activities and participant needs.
  • Collaborate with menu and recipe development for participants and/or around medical nutrition therapy and lifecycle nutrition that apply to Food is Medicine initiatives (e.g., maternal and infant health, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Gastrointestinal Disease).
  • Develop content for nutrition and cooking education materials such as handouts, videos, blog or other social media posts.
  • Provide timely reporting of measurable goals and objectives along with other required documentation.
  • Serve as an expert in nutritional science and dietetics.


Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • RD/RDN as verified by Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience
  • Trained in Motivational Interviewing
  • Counseling skills for specific populations and disease states (including but not limited to: maternal nutrition, perinatal nutrition, pediatric nutrition, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Gastrointestinal Disease, Food Allergies, and other chronic diseases)
  • Current Missouri dietetic/nutrition license or ability to obtain license in the state of Missouri
  • ServSafe® certification at Food Handler or Manager level or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and initiative-specific meetings
  • Participate in organizational events and fundraising activities
  • Participate in monthly continuing education for RD credentials with RD team
  • Passion for the OFS mission


Helpful Experience and Qualifications


  • Master's degree in nutrition/dietetics, public health, or closely related health field
  • Additional certifications or credentials or willingness to pursue, such as: CDCES, Board Certified in Obesity and Weight Management, Board Certified Pediatric Specialist, Clinical Lipid Specialist (CLS), etc.
  • Experience working with marginalized populations and those experiencing food insecurity
  • 2-5 years professional experience as a Registered Dietitian
  • Willingness to train and serve as preceptor for dietetic interns
  • Robust knowledge of health equity, JEDI principles, and the social determinants of health
  • Knowledge about Trauma-Informed Care and its implementation
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and diverse systems of care
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to establish positive interpersonal relationships with staff and colleagues, as well as external community for networking and partnership building
  • Familiar and comfortable using the Microsoft Suite; able and willing to learn other software programs

  • Occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and community-based activities
  • Flexibility in working hours for occasional special events, after-hours, or weekend activities
  • Willingness to assist with other OFS duties as required or as assigned

















Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary: $55,000 or commensurate with experience
