Position Overview
The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated and experienced candidate to serve as our Clinical Services Supervisor for their assigned facility. Under administrative direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Programs, the Clinical Services Supervisor manages the staff that provide direct care to youth that have been committed to the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. The incumbent in this role will develop and oversee programming in the facility that is designed to support the rehabilitation of youth. This role coordinates staff and engages families to develop specialized plans with the goal of having positive outcomes for the youth when they return to their communities. Job Responsibilities
- Directs the professional counseling, reception and classification phase and all case management functions of Clinical Services.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Participate in inter-department program and administrative staff meetings, conferences, and training events to keep abreast of new directives, procedures, and policy changes.
- Reviews and evaluate the Record Office and its procedures.
- Serves as Duty Administrative Officer.
- Communicates with people outside the facility regarding placement, transfers, authorized absences, legal issues, and parole planning and concerns of families.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in the behavioral or social sciences.
- Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in corrections, juvenile rehabilitation, behavioral, social sciences, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience as a case manager in a correctional, juvenile rehabilitation, behavioral, social sciences, or related field.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience supervising professional staff in the human services field.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in analyzing behavior problems and applying methods of treating behavioral problems.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in establishing and maintaining satisfactory working relationships with youth, representatives of civic, law enforcement, and community agencies, institutions staff, and subordinate staff.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience instructing and training staff in the proper procedures of implementing an effective reintegration program.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of demonstrating the ability to analyze history and progress reports and make professional guidance recommendations.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Excel or equivalent computer program.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with Youth360 or equivalent computer database program.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Prefers the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume, and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department's zero tolerance Drug Testing Policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of position held is prohibited.
- Requires the ability to comply with all local and federal health requirements and/or mandates. Governor Pritzker announced a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all State employees whose job duties require them to work in a congregate care facility. All 24/7 congregate-care facilities operated by the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice are included in this mandate, which went into effect October 26, 2021.

Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
