JOB DESCRIPTION:

Working as part of a coordinated production team the CNC lathe operator apprentice follows the learning path outlined by Earthworks. The apprenticeship is designed to last a full year but may be increased or decreased upon demonstrating mastery of essential functions. Position will also include additional cross training on other aspects of the production process and supply chain management. Tuition reimbursement is available for courses in a related field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates with the shop leadership to manage the flow of work through the shop ensuring safe, quality and timely production.
  • Performs operational steps correctly.
  • Monitors initial runs and inspects workpieces to assure conformance to print specifications, tolerances and quality requirements.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements - following manufacturer's instructions and troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Accurately documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Sets up machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry; and proving part programs.
  • Completes jobs per instructions on work orders.
  • Regularly inspects in-process parts and makes necessary adjustments to maintain quality conformance and consistency.
  • Interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of programs and procedures.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Some exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can occasionally be loud. Safety equipment is available and must be used.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

This position is active and may require some standing, walking, and lifting (up to 50 pounds, and occasionally over 100 pounds with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full time position; five 8-hour days per week.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

HS degree or GED required. Experience in team-oriented manufacturing is a plus. Active enrollment in a two year college vocational tech program will be required for the apprenticeship (unless degree is already obtained).

Reports directly to CNC foreman
