Wellmark is looking to add to our aviation team! Our pilots play an integral role in transporting our executive and corporate level staff.

Co-pilots are responsible to the Captain of the flight for the conduct and execution of assigned duties. This includes assisting in operating Wellmark's aircraft in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations, aircraft limitations, Wellmark Flight Operations Manual procedures, and company policies and procedures. You will ensure that the assigned aircraft is airworthy and flying conditions are acceptable prior to the flight, and are responsible for the safety of the passengers, the crew, and cargo.

Qualifications


Required:

  • Required Hours:
    • 1000 Total Hours.
    • 250 hours Multi-Engine Land (AMEL).
    • 150 hours Turbine Engine Operational Experience.
  • Current commercial pilot license, multi-engine & instrument ratings (FAA Certificate).
  • Minimum second class medical certificate (FAA Certificate).
  • A valid driver’s license and U.S. passport are required for international travel & training.
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional situational awareness and decision making skills.
  • Proven concise and systematic approach to maximize potential for successful resolution of normal, abnormal, and emergency situations in compliance with applicable regulations and business rules.
  • Experience directing multiple activities and resources simultaneously to accomplish various objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience as a corporate, commercial, or airline transport pilot in private, commercial, or military activity.
  • Essential Function: Lifting or carrying up to 50lbs.
  • Essential Function: Traveling at least greater than 90 percent of time.
  • Must live within 1 hour driving time from Des Moines International Airport.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor degree, associate degree, completion of aviation vocational program, or equivalent.

Additional Information


a. Operate the company aircraft to provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation by complying with Federal Aviation Regulations aircraft limitations, Wellmark Flight Operations Manual procedures, and company policies and procedures.

b. Conduct pre-flight inspections and planning to ensure a safe and comfortable flight, including, but not limited to: assist in evaluating current and forecasted weather conditions for departure, en-route, arrival, and alternate points, assist in calculating and reviewing aircraft weight and balance, fuel requirements, and performance data, assist in validating airworthiness of the aircraft, assist in reviewing aircraft performance charts to ensure that the necessary margins of safety prescribed by the Federal Aviation Regulations and company policies exist, assist in preparing and filing flight plans and assist with safety responsibilities as required.

c. Assist with any decisions necessary to start, delay, cancel or alter the flight when conditions dictate. Comply with company crew scheduling and other directives.

d. Be prepared to assume the duties of the pilot in command in the event the pilot in command is incapacitated.

e. Report any inconsistencies and/or deviations to the Chief Pilot from regulation or policy.

f. Maintain a high level of proficiency and technical knowledge of the Wellmark aircraft by staying current to any changes in the aircraft flight manual and annually attending recurrent training in each aircraft.

g. Assist with the care, servicing and security of aircraft when away from base. Ensure aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers.

h. Keep apprised of the latest developments in the business aviation field such as regulatory requirements, technology, and generally accepted operating procedures (e.g. industry best practices).

i. Other duties as assigned.
