JOB SUMMARY
Working Leader of a team in support of all manufacturing processes. Supports and trains Team Members in all essential functions and skill sets as required to effectively operate and continually improve their processes. Responsible for the work flow in their area of operation. Leads the team in safe and effective execution of production plans using a structured lean work and management system. This includes leading effective response to abnormal conditions, leading problem-solving activities to obtain sustainable standards, and supporting continuous improvement efforts in their area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Integrity through fair and safe behavior and responsibility for personal health at all times. Wears required PPE and is aware of all safety key points related to each job in the work area. Ensures proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed
2. Empowered to monitor the work environment for safe working conditions and safe behaviors by others. Takes action as necessary to maintain health and safety of others. Provides direct feedback to team members and resolves conflicts
3. Upholds the vision and values of Gestamp.
4. Empowered to request changes to Standard Work. Once these changes are approved, they train team members and monitor conformance to the new process.
5. Passionately assists other Team Members in continuously improving the operation.
6. Is required to be able to proficiently perform standardized work and all job related functions for operations in their area.
7. Trains team members in the learning and application of Lean Tools and Systems
8. Accountable for product excellence.
9. Actively participates in and helps to design Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and preventive maintenance programs.
10. Assists operators in TPM implementation and accountable for compliance, leading by example.
11. Accountable for Team execution of 5S standards, also coaches Team Members to sustain and improve these standards.
12. Participates in SMED activities.
13. Promotes teamwork to insure safe and effective execution of production plans.
Trains and develops each Team Member in standardized work for each position using Job-Instruction-Training methods. This includes
– safe and effective skill building with each capable Team Member
– an ability to diagnose and remediate performance deficiencies, and
– Team Member re-training as improvements in standardized work are established
– Team Member cross training to develop operational flexibility as directed by the Group Leader.
14. Ensures that all Team Members follow standardized work and standardized procedures diligently and with integrity. This involves both a process (i.e., team member follows and understands all steps and key points) and a results (team member works safely, produces quality parts, and meets time standards) focus.
15. Conducts and is responsible for both informal and structured audits (safety checks, 5S, standardized work, red rabbits and other standard GPS audits) and takes effective action to remediate deficiencies evident from these audits.
16. Monitors the production environment and identifies abnormal and out-of-standard conditions. Once identified, promptly implements appropriate countermeasures (both temporary and permanent). The top priority is to take preventative actions that maintain worker safety, product quality, overall equipment effectiveness, productivity, and cost targets.
17. Attention to safety consciousness of the team to insure safety remains a top priority for all team members at all times, including daily discussions on safety topics and one-point lessons. Prompt and effective remediation of any safety issue that does arise (an activity given highest priority) including assurance that each team member learns from such events and future risks are minimized.
18. First responder to operational problems defining and implementing temporary countermeasures or escalating the problem to bring in skilled services (e.g., maintenance or quality) and/or higher levels of management when appropriate. Strong support for external resources brought in to resolve issues, ensuring they do their work promptly and effectively.
19. Leadership in front line operation of a lean Daily Management System (DMS). This includes responsibility for
– mechanics of the DMS process including gathering and communication of status information (observations, audits, operational report generation or transmittal), diligent and timely updating of management boards at the process and team levels, effective conduct of daily team meetings, and positive participation in Zone and/or War Room Meetings
– Leadership of structured problem solving efforts for issues and problems that team resources (plus any appropriate specialist resources) are sufficient to resolve or strong support in any special problem solving efforts. This includes immediate updating of action items lists as countermeasures are identified.
– Timely and effective execution of action items, using team and external resources that have been provided, including escalation of concerns to higher levels of management when appropriate.
20. Accountable for monitoring the performance of each Team Member with strong coaching and frequent, constructive feedback to remediate both operational and behavioral performance deficiencies. Provides input to the Group Leader on team members’ formal performance evaluations and informs the Group Leader in a timely manner if there is a need for disciplinary action.
21. Accountable for data entry into and accuracy of production reporting systems (CAPTOR, SAP, log books, etc.)
22. Reinforces the containment and control of non-conforming product using standard processes.
23. Empowered for self-directed pursuit of opportunities for continuous improvement along with constructive support for internally- and externally-lead improvement initiatives.
24. Provides input to Operations Group Leader for Team Members evaluation
25. Performs Team Leader duties in their absence.
26. Ensure all presses are up and running, If not troubleshoot press.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma/GED required
- Minimum 2 years manufacturing experience required
- Experience with Standard Work Systems
- Computer experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Able to resolve personnel and process issues
- Able to understand and report KPIs at DMS meetings
- Able to perform audits and report at shift meetings
- Leads by example and demonstrates respect to others with a positive and supportive attitude
- Demonstrates the knowledge of Standard Work for all processes in their area
- Effective communication skills including written, verbal and listening
- Sense of ownership of the area under their charge, and full responsibility for safety, OEE, throughput and quality
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
1. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear
3. Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
4. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
5. The noise level in the work environment is usually high
6. The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
7. The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so other will understand
8. The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted
