Collections Analyst Job at Ventura County Credit Union
JOB PURPOSE
Under minimum supervision, the Collections Analyst is responsible for higher level collections processes, such as driving operational improvements, increasing automation, and upgrading reporting across the department. This will include review of policies, procedures, and reports that are candidates for charter or process flow documentation to launch new projects. The role requires excellent communications with Collections, the Business Analysts, the Technology team, and other key stakeholders, and necessitates strong excel and database software management skills. This position will help drive efficiencies and automation while performing and supporting the tactical collection activities in the department including collection queues, calls, and documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS

- Must maintain the Credit Union's policies regarding Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality.
- Review and analyze assigned past due accounts. Handle telephone and mail communication related to delinquent activity and serve as a knowledgeable liaison to VCCU staff for collections issues.
- Seek out and communicate opportunities to improve, standardize and streamline the company's collections processes with the goal of reducing manual collections processing.
- In collaboration with the Collections Manager, modernize Collections Department procedures, working to identify processing delays, staffing or training gaps, and find opportunities for improvement and automation.
- Participate in the development, testing, and implementation of new technologies, program automations, and departmental workflows that will improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- May perform delinquency control and collection, specifically on the following types of accounts:
- Deceased accounts including obtaining Death Certificate, establishing whether there is an estate for the claim to be filed, and recommending repossession of collateral and/or Charge off of account as necessary;
- Bankruptcy accounts which require processing notices from the court, filing Proof of Claims and Reaffirmations, completing BK Watch List and other related bankruptcy process activities.
- Process monthly reports at the direction of the Collections Manager and/or VP, Risk Management.
- Assists, trains, and is a resource to Collections Officer I and II.
- Handles Voluntary repossessions and impounds accounts in absence of other Collection Officers.
- Ensures all policies, procedures and operations standards are adhered to and that operational changes to policies and procedures are instituted in response to management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Assists in supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include back up to the Collections Supervisor and the Collections Manager, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems under direction from Collections Manager.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
ALL EMPLOYEES MUST QUALIFY FOR AND MAINTAIN A FIDELITY BOND
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required. 4-year college degree preferred.
- Requires a minimum of four years of collections, customer service, and/or Financial Institution experience.
- Expert knowledge of and full compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations governing the collection of past due accounts, including but not limited to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Requires through knowledge of Credit Union products and services. Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to operate all basic office equipment and have advanced knowledge and experience with MS Office products, particularly with Excel. Must have a thorough knowledge of the Credit Union electronic data processing system.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Advanced knowledge and understanding of statistical principles and calculations preferred.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary sitting position 75% of the time. The person in the position must communicate constantly with members via telephone in order to convey information about their account and you must be able to exchange accurate information with them. You are occasionally required to traverse across the office/lobby to access files. You will constantly operate computer equipment using a keyboard, 10 touch keypads and other like office equipment to accurately calculate figures and input data. You will sometimes have to ascend/descend or position yourself to crouch or kneel for items on the floor. The employee must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
