Position Purpose:
As the Collections Officer, will ensure enforcement of group financial agreements and resolution of delinquency problems, perform all functions necessary to resolve significant accounts receivable issues, analyze outstanding premiums to determine collectability and provide accurate financial statement information. The ideal candidate for this position should have a strong understanding of Microsoft Excel, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to work independently.
Logistics:
This is a full-time position working (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm working on-site at 4101 Percival Rd. Columbia SC, with the opportunity to work remote after meeting training standards.
What You’ll Do:
- Provides timely/accurate financial data for collections process. Audits group claims expenses, administration fees and other manually posted expenses. Ensures accurate posting of all accounts receivables in order to reconcile amounts billed versus amounts received.
- Monitors, collects, and reconciles over $65,000,000 in outstanding receivables. Works with division personnel to ensure corporate standards are met for receivables over 30 and 60 days.
- Makes collection calls to executive personnel, group administrators, and BCBS partner plans. Provides recommendations to internal executive personnel regarding delinquent accounts.
- Generates routine internal and external reports on a daily/monthly/quarterly/annual basis. Reports statistics to upper executive management.
- Coordinates with legal department regarding actions to be taken on delinquent accounts. These include stopping payment of claims, litigation, referrals to outside collections agencies, bankruptcy filings, etc.
- Establishes payment plans and enforces penalties, as necessary. Reviews and mails pending cancellation and cancellation letters.
To Qualify for This Position, You’ll Need:
- 3 years of accounting, collections, contracts, financial analysis/budget management, or customer service experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance/Financial Management, Accounting, Math, or other job related field. OR 4 years of collections experience.
- Good judgment skills.
- Effective customer service skills.
- Ability to use complex mathematical calculations.
- Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Analytical or critical thinking skills.
- Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
- Thorough knowledge/understanding of legal ramifications of statues/rules regarding collections.
- Thorough knowledge/understanding of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
- Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
What we Prefer you to have:
- 2 years-of audit/compliance experience.
- Knowledge of database software.
- Presentation skills.
- Knowledge of group policies regarding cancellation, termination notice, payment, and reinstatement provisions.
- Knowledge of Codes Manual and Underwriting Rules and Regulations.
- Working knowledge of BCBSSC billing, claims, delinquency, income, membership, PABS systems.
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
