The Communications Specialist works in tandem with the Manager, Communications to successfully implement Employ Prince George’s (EPG) outreach and communications plans through the development of workforce development media assets (videography, podcast development, photography, and print materials), social media, press/public relations, and multimedia equipment coordination. To be successful in this role, the candidate must have a deep understanding and thoughtful application of digital content and communication strategy.
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for supporting strategies that increase Employ Prince George’s and the American Job Center Community Network’s visibility, to diverse global audiences, expand the sharing of digital information, and strengthen internal communication systems. The communications arm of the Community Development Department manages the creation, production, and distribution of digital and print products, the company-wide content calendar, and marketing and media activities at the county and national levels. Other tasks such as written support to proposals for projects may be assigned based upon organizational needs and/or the individual's strengths or interests. The position is remote, however, you must be local to DC, MD, or Northern VA to attend events, or business engagements, as necessary.
The Communications Specialist reports to the Manager, Communications, and works with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Create engaging media content (e.g. press releases, publications, social media posts, blog posts, website language)
- Develop multi-channel content calendars on a weekly and monthly basis
- Work with designers, media planners, and marketing specialists to create copy
- Monitor analytics with the social media team to identify viable ideas
- Attend EPG events and record, photograph, and archive digital assets
- Assist in the production of the Workforce Wire Podcast, recording, marketing, publishing
- Organize and file all project requests ensuring completion by designated deadlines
- Ensure company-wide branding and style compliance, and implement communications team processes and guidelines across all outreach materials
- Assist with tracking multimedia equipment and inventory
- Backstop the Employ Prince George’s and American Job Center Community Network websites
- Support in creating, editing, and posting creative content on social channels
- Design and execute EPG and AJCCN participation in specific workforce event days in social conversations to amplify EPG/American Job Center’s mission and resources
- Support in repurposing and creating fresh content for monthly eNewsletters and other direct communications
- Expand digital dissemination outlets for information sharing such as websites, webinars, social media, videos, data visualizations, infographics, email listservs, etc.
- Track, analyze, and generate reports for organic content, sponsored posts, and social advertising
- Create content – writing both short, and long-form posts, sourcing images, repurposing user-generated content, photographing events, and producing short-form videos
