The Open Door Shelter Inc. (Open Doors) is a nonprofit organization operating in Norwalk, CT. Our mission is to make a direct impact in the Greater Norwalk area by guiding every person in the cycle of homelessness towards housing stability. We accomplish this by engaging every person at risk of, and experiencing, homelessness with a holistic set of tools and resources that can be tailored to their individual needs.
TITLE: Community Closet Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Community and Volunteer Manager
LOCATION: The Open Door Shelter Inc., Norwalk, CT 06854
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of Community and Volunteer Manager, Community Closet Associate greets guests; provides a welcoming environment for all; answers questions and directs clients to corresponding programs; assure donations are organized and sorted; ensures the safety of clients, volunteers and staff by following best practices. This is a part-time position of up to 17 hours a week.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Welcome clients, visitors, and others and ensure they are checked in for their appointment.
- Provide basic and accurate information in-person and via phone/email.
- Receive and maintain inventory/records of all supplies and donations. Enters all data in system
- Tracks all data related to Community Closet clients and ensures data integrity throughout all platforms.
- Assign daily tasks to volunteers and follows up on completion.
- Ensure the reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and materials. (e.g., pens, donation forms, flyers and brochures etc.)
- Monitor Community Closet environment to ensure a safe environment for staff, clients and visitors.
- Performs other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school degree or its equivalent is preferred.
- Proficient in Spanish or/and Haitian Creole language.
- Successful work experience in a front office setting or in customer service position.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong communication skills to relate effectively with people with diverse backgrounds.
- The ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly.
- Attentiveness to detail while multi-tasking numerous activities is required.
