The Community Outreach & Education Associate of St. Barnabas Senior Services (SBSS) works closely with Communications and Programs departments to assist in the creation and execution of outreach and marketing strategies for SBSS and its individual programs. The Outreach Associate plays a vital role in promoting awareness of SBSS’s mission, impact, and activities, and in building relationships with community peer and partner organizations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

DIRECT OUTREACH (70%)

  • In coordination with Program Director and in close partnership with the Communications Manager, implement community outreach plan(s), and provide tactical and strategic recommendations based on insights drawn from direct work in the SBSS communities.
  • Disseminate organization and program promotional materials directly in the SBSS services areas, including flyer drops, tabling, participating in community resource fairs, public events, meetings, visiting various communities to work with community residents to build awareness of SBSS services, and facilitating SBSS-hosted information sessions with peer and partner organizations.
  • Develop relationships with Senior Housing and local community centers
  • Develop, maintain and oversee a regular, robust monthly calendar of outreach activities
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of community activities relevant to SBSS target markets.
  • Represent SBSS at press events and public events. Recommend appropriate community events (health fairs, resource fairs, etc.) for SBSS to participate, with the goal of expanding our reach. In consultation with the Communications, and Program departments, strategize appropriate messaging, prepare and/or gather materials, coordinate with community event producers, serve as the primary SBSS representative at community events, and assess participation efforts as they relate to SBSS goals.
  • Maintain awareness of SBSS organizational and programmatic activities, priorities, and recent accomplishments. Develop and hone a strong ‘elevator pitch’ for SBSS and its programs.
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of community activities relevant to SBSS target markets.
  • Give presentations on educational topics that promote services at St. Barnabas

COMMUNICATIONS (10%)

  • In close collaboration with Communications Manager and Program Director, develop outreach strategies to support organizational, participant, programmatic growth.
  • Recommend strategies for improving outreach efforts
  • In collaboration with Communications Manager, coordinate digital and in-person messaging as much as possible.
  • Assist with cultivating and maintaining strong positive external relationships with press outlets, and other partners; and strong positive internal relationships with SBSS programs and operations staff, and SBSS clients

ADMINISTRATIVE (20%)

  • Ensure organizational and program materials are up to date.
  • Track activities and progress to goals, including number of materials disseminated, number of people reached, etc. Assist in creating a mechanism to track the number of participant inquiries as a direct result of community outreach efforts.
  • Utilize DonorPerfect to document and track relationships with community, peer, and partner organizations, ensuring contact information is up-to-date, and key pieces of relationship data are entered in a timely manner.
  • Assess and report on the effectiveness of outreach strategies, through quantitative and qualitative data. Recommend and spearhead efforts to improve effectiveness.
  • Oversee volunteers as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Public Health, Community Health, Communications, and/or Marketing
  • Proven record of strengthening relationships with community stakeholders
  • Experience with communications and outreach campaigns
  • Experience in managing communications and outreach campaigns
  • Experience with taking projects from concept to completion with minimal oversight
  • Experience in communicating diverse programs and services to a variety of audiences
  • Bilingual Korean required
  • Valid California State Driver’s License, ability to use personal vehicle for outreach activities (mileage reimbursed), and current insurance

  • Strong awareness of cultural and socioeconomic nuances across diverse communities, and commitment to inclusive outreach efforts
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Competence in Canva, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Sharepoint, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Squarespace, and CRM database software (DonorPerfect preferred)
  • Self-directed, highly motivated, organized, problem-solving
  • Experience in cross-departmental and cross-level collaboration with volunteers, peers, and colleagues
  • Personal qualities that include integrity, accountability, responsibility, ability to take initiative, capacity for reflection and continuous improvement, commitment to SBSS’s mission, respect for diversity and inclusion, as well as the ability to inspire and motivate
  • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities
