Community Outreach Specialist Job at Westchester County Government
The Westchester County Human Rights Commission seeks a community engagement specialist to conduct presentations and prepare educational materials on housing discrimination.
Working under the direct supervision of the Fair Housing Director, the selected candidate will be responsible for conducting outreach to the public, community groups, housing providers, housing organizations and housing professionals. Presentations will be conducted in-person and virtually. The selected candidate will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data.
A background in housing discrimination is helpful but not necessary. Candidates should be self-starters, excellent presenters, clear communicators, and work effectively with people and organizations. Candidates should be detail oriented and motivated to combat discrimination. The selected candidate must have a high degree of initiative and the ability to carry out project assignments of a broadly defined nature. Must have good judgment and be able to convey matters diplomatically, professionally, and collaboratively.
The Human Rights Commission, a division of County government, enforces the County’s Human Rights and Fair Housing Laws and engages in robust education and outreach efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school or equivalency diploma and either (a) 6 years of experience in a position where the primary function was in community or public relations, community education or community services; or (b) 6 years of experience in a position where the primary function was administrative support that involved responding to inquiries from the public, community groups and advocacy groups; or (c) an equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b) above.
SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits toward a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to 4 years of the required experience.
