Role Summary

The Community Relations & Employee Engagement Mgr - CA is the subject matter expert in localized community relations strategies at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgments to make decisions and take initiatives to activate the Alaska Airlines values and brand in compelling ways that support and engage local communities in key California markets, as well as engage employees to enable our California-based individuals to be effective ambassadors for the company.

Key Duties

  • Develop and execute localized and culturally relevant strategies to engage local California communities in our key markets in ways that demonstrate Alaska’s values, invest meaningfully in the communities we serve, and activate the Alaska Airlines brand.
  • Cultivate partnerships with local nonprofit and community leaders, in coordination with the MD California Public Affairs and broader public affairs and sustainability division.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager for California to develop and pitch stories, manage media events, and serve as a spokesperson where appropriate.
  • Plan and execute high-profile community events, including Alaska Airlines participation and brand presence, and in coordination with Marketing, PR, and Sales teams and team members to advance Alaska’s business in key California audiences.
  • Represent Alaska Airlines in the community on key issues and in business organizations, including in leadership roles on board and committees, to support the economic development and business climate of California markets, and to support Alaska’s ability to do business successfully in these regions.
  • Develop and execute strategies to equip and engage California-based employees to build represent Alaska Airlines in the community and serve as effective Ambassadors for our business. Working with division and operations leaders in the state and other members of the public affairs team, this includes developing and distributing materials and tools, coordinating internal and external events or town hall meetings, and promoting volunteer opportunities throughout the state.
  • Responsible for development of annual plans.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of experience in public affairs, or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Proven experience with social organizations, fundraising campaigns, media activities, and similar groups.
  • A sound strategic thinker with a track record demonstrating good judgment, strong business acumen, and the ability to lead change and execute plans with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven success in driving measurable changes to customer satisfaction.
  • Professional work ethic and demonstrated ability to work with all groups while addressing people with honesty, courage, and candor.
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Airline industry experience.

Salary Range

$97,300 - $145,900 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
