The Community Relations Manager (CRM) is a full-time position and an integral part of the team of San Francisco Community Health Center (SFCHC) that focuses on strategy, innovation, and external relations. The CRM is a highly visible role that will contribute to the long-term growth and development of SFCHC by (1) embodying SFCHC’s brand to connect external partners with our direct services, clients, patients, and communities; (2) developing and nurturing strategic relationships and partnerships with community organizations, health care institutions, community coalitions and networks, and funders; (3) participating in SFCHC policy and advocacy efforts, community events, and fundraising initiatives; and (4) ensuring community needs, issues, and concerns are meaningfully integrated into SFCHC decisions related to programmatic direction. The CRM will report directly to the CEO.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Partnerships & Relationships
- Serves as SFCHC’s brand ambassador and spokesperson, promoting the broad range of SFCHC’s service portfolio and is a primary point of contact with community groups in order to maintain and protect SFCHC’s strong and positive reputation in the community;
- Engages local community partners, leaders, organizations, and coalitions to advance the mission of SFCHC and to uplift the issues, needs, and concerns of SFCHC’s priority populations, as well as identifying, addressing, and mitigating issues that may impact relationships between SFCHC and the community;
- Conducts outreach and provide ongoing support and information to ensure that there are positive, trusted relationships and transparent communication with community organizations, networks, leaders, and the broader community;
- Proactively identifies opportunities to represent and/or showcase SFCHC’s work and impacts at public events, forums, and external opportunities, allowing SFCHC team members to interact with the community in positive and meaningful ways;
- Plans and organizes public relations activities and programs;
- Ensures that timely, accurate and important information reaches the community and plans, organizes, and executes consistent and informative presentations, events, meetings, tours, and one-on-one conversations with neighbors, community merchants, neighborhood organizations, and other groups;
- Regularly hosts and attends community meetings to provide updates and hear feedback;
- Supports all external communications efforts including developing content for social media outlets
Policy, Advocacy, Fundraising Areas
- Contributes actively to all SFCHC events, ensuring attendance by key stakeholders, inclusive of funders, elected officials, community leaders, etc.;
- Supports advocacy efforts and ensures our clients are actively engaged in these efforts;
- Supports internal subject matter experts and ensures appropriate team members are briefed with the proper information, so they can engage the public, answer questions, and address concerns;
- Participates in all fundraising efforts and events
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience in health care administration/policy, nonprofit organizational development;
- Three years of increasingly responsible experience in public relations, communication, marketing or related field;
- Strong working knowledge of and experience with San Francisco’s health care, HIV, and LGBTQ ecosystem;
- Effective ability to communicate SFCHC’s role in the health care environment
- Experience and ability to work independently, as well as with and across all levels of management and line staff
- Sensitivity to HIV issues, as well as gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and language diversity
- Demonstrated track record of personal and professional integrity
- Excellent attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Experience and ability to influence and collaborate in a diverse and cross-functional workplace.
- Experience and ability to identify stakeholders’ needs / concerns and provide proactive solutions.
STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in an FQHC/community health center
- Demonstrated track record of earning respect and positive reputation with San Francisco’s public and community health care sector
- Experience with San Francisco government and City Hall relations
