This is a temporary position to assist in the Opus College of Engineering to assist in ensuring efficient and secure IT systems meet the needs of our customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Design, install/configure, manage, maintain, and support the college-wide Microsoft server infrastructure including Active Directory, Hyper-V, SCCM, SQL, and third-party applications
2. Build, test, deploy, and maintain Windows and Linux operating system images
3. Package, test and deploy engineering software packages and updates to the end-user environment using SCCM and application virtualization technologies
4. Provide academic technology support for specialized software packages across engineering disciplines including computer-aided design, simulation/analysis, testing/measurement, and integrated development environments
5. Proactively monitor and maintain inventory lifecycle processes for end-user hardware and software assets on a network of 1,200+ computers in offices, classrooms, and research/teaching laboratories
6. Create scripting solutions within PowerShell for automation and other administrative needs
7. Provide expert consulting services along with testing, evaluation, and recommendations of hardware systems and software to meet end-user needs
8. Create and maintain workflow design of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) managing the security and configuration of the Windows desktop OS
9. Supervise and mentor a Desktop Support Technician student employee along with daily delegation of projects and tasks
10. Manage and support the undergraduate student laptop program
11. Work with vendors to purchase computer hardware and license engineering software
12. Serve as Tier-3 advanced knowledge resource monitoring, responding to, and resolving escalated helpdesk tickets
13. Provide academic research technology support to faculty and student researchers
14. Collaborate with other technology teams around campus working on projects, sharing ideas, and solving problems
15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of IT training, certification and work experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience working with Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, RedHat) and Mac OS

General knowledge of engineering applications (CAD, LabVIEW, Matlab, Ansys)

Certification(s) in the area(s) of design/administration of Windows Server solutions, security compliance, endpoint management

Experience working with Azure cloud-based solutions such as virtual desktop environments

Good understanding of networking concepts (switches, firewalls, and routers)
