Computer Technology Instructor

The Computer Teacher works in cooperation with the Director of Technology in overseeing all aspects of computer education in the school. The Computer Teacher needs a spirit that embodies the school’s mission and philosophy. They will work closely with the Head of School and Assistant Principals to carry out established school policies and keeps the Head/Principal informed on all issues related to the position. The Computer Teacher reports to the Head of School and participates as a member of the technology committee.

PRIMARY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES (11:00-3:00)

  • Computer instruction consists of self-paced, interactive curriculum that engages students while they are learning critical technology skills such as keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation skills. Students learn about internet research to gather, evaluate and use information. Internet safety and digital citizenship are also a part of the curriculum.
  • Using iPads or Chromebooks, students apply existing knowledge to plan and conduct research, manage projects, and produce original work. Students communicate and work collaboratively using a variety of apps that help them think critically and solve problems using logic and reasoning skills.

The school has embraced Google Apps for Education. This product is equipped with all necessary tools for teacher/student communication, collaboration, documentation, storage, sharing, and learning, along with high security. Google Apps for Education includes Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawing), Sites, Groups, and many more.

  • Planning lessons and activities that facilitate students’ acquisition of basic and advanced computer skills.
  • Providing instruction that helps students’ build confidence in their computer skills.
  • Supporting students with excellent classroom management.
  • Providing immediate feedback to students.
  • Using assessment to guide instruction.
  • Clearly communicate expectations and set appropriate goals for students.
  • Ensure that the computer lab is safe, accessible, and free from food and drink.
  • Update software as needed and manage the allocation of hardware.
  • Promote STEM principles and assist in curriculum development.
  • Attend faculty meetings as requested by school administrators.
  • Support teachers and administrators in learning new computer skills, and programs. Helping set up lessons and presentations as needed.

SECONDARY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES (8:00-11:00)-negotiable

  • Being available to assist with MDS Television Station where 8th grade students produce the morning announcements program
  • Assist teachers with specialized instructional programs like AR, Freckle, Kami, Read & Write, Adobe Spark, Learning Ally and Bookshare as well as Assisted Technology to support student learning.
  • Assist teachers with classroom equipment such as tv, interactive whiteboard, sound system, computers, document camera, etc.
  • Assist in the gymnasium with light, sound, and video systems during Celebration Fridays, talent shows, musicals and drama performances.
  • Help manage ipads and chromebooks using Google Admin and Meraki Console
  • Help manage GoGuardian and Sycamore
  • Train Staff
  • Research Emerging Technologies

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of education

Teaching experience preferred

Google Level One and Two certified with plans to continue developing skills in this area.

Pay: $42,500.00 - $50,000.00 per year
