Qualifications and Detail about the Position

Summary:

The Corporate Counsel is responsible for providing comprehensive legal counsel and legal risk analysis to the company. This position will work closely with colleagues throughout the organization, gaining a sophisticated understanding of the company’s business and actively contributing to the strategic growth of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote, demonstrate and instill Brock’s B safe and B best culture in all aspects of the business
  • Take an active role in coordinating with the Canadian business units, at all levels to provide risk management analysis and support.
  • Responsibilities will include transactional work, including drafting and managing correspondence, change order requests, demand letters and the like, for all customer disputes and litigation when necessary.
  • Provide guidance and back-up/overflow resources, as necessary, to the Legal Department’s
    Contract Administrators.
  • Oversee subpoena response efforts.
  • Manage legal aspect of collection matters, including document management and lien filings.
  • Provide assistance for customer bankruptcies, including preliminary assessment of amounts due, potential preference claims and proof of claim submissions.
  • Assist with legal training for on-site operations personnel and contract cycle management.
  • Perform any other related functions as necessary to fulfill the above requirements or at the direction of Supervisor.
  • Review, draft, update, negotiate and manage contracts process
  • Coordinate with outside counsel with respect to regulatory and general legal issues affecting corporate operations
  • Manage, facilitate, address, and administer to general day-to-day disputes with customers and vendors
  • Manage case load and coordinate with outside counsel and insurance adjusters with respect to outstanding employment and general liability claims
  • Assist General Counsel with lawsuits as needed
  • Provide support to Human Resources department, advising and educating on proper investigative procedures and legal issues, including harassment and discrimination prevention



Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions include outdoor and indoor field, yard and shop locations.
  • Working indoors in an office environment
  • Utilization of Personal Protective Equipment is necessary.
  • Frequent travel as required

Education & Experience :

  • 8 years+ previous in-house and law firm experience required.
  • 8 years+ employment litigation or construction litigation experience required.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited institute
  • 8 years+ experience with compliance and working in a regulated industry is preferred
