About the role
The Senior Sustainability Director plays a key role in positioning Amcor as THE leading packaging company for the environment delivering on Amcor’s sustainability strategy and as a supplier of choice for responsible packaging. This role will serve as an advocate and spokesperson before a diverse range of stakeholders and leaders in industry, government, academia, and the media to advance Amcor’s sustainability agenda.

The Senior Sustainability Director will be responsible for the effective management and oversight of Amcor’s commitment to achieve science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions across the business.

Key Job Accountabilities
  • Contribute to the overall strategic direction and achievement of Amcor’s sustainability agenda, with a responsibility to achieve Amcor’s GHG reduction targets
  • Serve as a knowledgeable advocate to engage stakeholders and advance Amcor’s sustainability agenda externally. Represent Amcor with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Keep abreast of emerging issues relative to Amcor’s sustainability program
  • Lead sustainability directors and other functional leaders across Amcor with implementation of corporate programs related to greenhouse gas emissions reduction and reporting
  • Develop strong relationships with counterparts in other businesses and other relevant associations and thought leaders to address critical issues relevant to Amcor
  • Build capabilities with businesses across Amcor to achieve Amcor’s ambitions for science-based GHG emissions reductions and a pathway to net zero emissions
  • Position Amcor ahead of change and maintain leadership in packaging sustainability and contribute to Amcor’s profitable growth

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree is preferred)
  • Track record for contributing to the strategic sustainability agenda and contribution to successful, dynamic, and evolving organizations
  • The ability to represent Amcor in front of NGOs, industry organizations and institutions
  • Experience and credibility to earn the trust of key internal and external stakeholders
  • Must have agility to balance complex situations, manage ambiguity, and ability to drive consensus in an environment of competing interests
  • Superior interpersonal and persuasive skills, the ability to inspire, motivate and excite a broad range of constituencies
  • Outstanding communication skills to simplify complex concepts and clearly articulate Amcor’s mission and agenda, build trust quickly, and command the respect of his/her audience
  • Unquestionable integrity, credibility and character, demonstrated high moral and ethical behavior
  • Demonstrated professional work characteristics including high initiative, dependability, and credibility
  • Willingness to travel as needed (ca. 10-20%)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software
  • Ability to maintain and deal with confidential information
  • Must be well organized and comfortable interfacing with all levels of management
  • Plans, organizes, and controls large work volume in fast-paced environment
