Position Summary

Black Mountain Sand is seeking a Manager - Cost Accounting and Operations to join their expanding team. This is a newly created, highly visible, cross-organizational role to strengthen the Accounting and Finance team and help identify and drive cost reduction opportunities of the Company’s frac sand facilities in the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford Shale and Mid-continent/SCOOP/STACK Basin. In addition to Accounting and Finance, this role will collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain Management, and Commercial to achieve the essential functions lined out below. This role will help influence the Company’s strategic decision making by performing complex analyses and presenting recommendations based on these analyses to senior leadership.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Black Mountain Sand (“BMS”) owns and operates mines that deliver in-basin

frac sand solutions to oil and gas exploration and production companies operating in Texas and Oklahoma. With facilities serving some of the most active drilling regions, the Company is well positioned to capitalize on the energy industry in some of the most productive hydrocarbon basins in the US. Founded in 2016, the Company has estimated frac sand production capacity ranging between 13 to 15 million tons annually.

Based on current growth plans and the desire to improve our operations, Management is focused on enhancing visibility and driving cost efficiencies at each frac sand facility. In order to facilitate this, Management has created this cross-organizational role to lead in the evaluation and execution of this important operational initiative.

The Manager – Cost Accounting and Operations will report directly to the Controller and to the Chief Operating Officer. The position is to be based in the Odessa/Midland area but travel to BMS’s other locations in South Texas, Oklahoma and its headquarters in Ft. Worth will be expected. Estimated travel to those regions is estimated to be 10%-15%.

Essential Functions

• For each plant, perform monthly operating cost analysis to support preliminary estimates provided by Operations to FP&A and work to understand variances.
• Function as a financial reporting partner to the Company’s respective plant managers. This involves reviewing respective P&Ls and collaborating with them to help identify areas for improvement in the financial performance of the plant.
• Assist Operations, Supply Chain and Commercial in analyzing the need for capital investments to drive operational efficiencies that have an ROI that meets Finance’s criteria for investment.
• Responsible for all fixed asset accounting for the company, ensuring that appropriate costs are capitalized and that assets are depreciated over proper useful lives.
• Develop a strong understanding of the operational process flow and resulting costs tied to each plant.
• Assist in monthly general ledger close process by working with other accounting team members as well as maintaining and improving accounting workbooks.
• Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with operating costs and inventory valuation
• Record monthly and standard journal entries to the general ledger
• Assist in the preparation of month end reports.
• Analyze financial information and prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reports.

Required Skills and Abilities

Ability to work independently and efficiently as well as with limited instruction.

• Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
• Experience working as a partner with operational staff to resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Must have a solid cost accounting and inventory controls background and have excellent analytical skills.
• Strong system skills with advanced Excel as a minimum requirement. The ability to learn how to pull and summarize data from multiple platforms (e.g. CMMS, OpenInvoice, PowerBi) and use in conjunction with our ERP (WolfePak).

• Strong technical capacity with ability to retain information (e.g., policies, procedures) or research as needed.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or comparable training in Accounting required.
• 3-5 years of related cost accounting experience. CMA or CPA is ideal. Will consider less experience in favor of public accounting experience with a reputable firm.
• Proven working knowledge of GAAP and internal control requirements.
