Job Summary:

Patient Access Representative will work along with our Medical Screeners in Tornillo, Socorro, Fabens, San Elizario, including other small West Texas communities. This temporary full-time position has been developed to assist with performing selected clinical duties including administrative/clerical duties, basic patient care and/or performing administrative tasks associated with patient intake. Under the supervision of Business Office Supervisor, the Patient Access Representative is responsible for gathering all the necessary documents required to register and enter data into the EMR system. The Patient Access Representative will ensure that all registration information is updated in patient account, per funding entity requirements.

Position may involve working outside.

Essential Functions:

  • Greeting and assisting patients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Answer telephone and provide information as necessary.
  • Gather required documents from patients for registration.
  • Enter patient information into the practice EMR software.
  • Obtains copies of third party identification cards.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility by phone and/or website.
  • Keeps an alphabetical file of all registered families.
  • Assists in updating demographic and insurance information, as needed.
  • Responsible for scheduling patients for drive-thru COVID-19 testing.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments accordance with defined appointment procedures, and in agreement with COVID schedule and clinic hours.
  • Assist patient(s) with registration process when they come is as walk-in.
  • Communicates with other department staff in efforts of scheduling patients.
  • Assures all required forms are complete and signed.
  • Participates as part of the business office team in performing business-related functions (i.e., receptionist, patient billing, clerical assistance, etc).
  • Communicates and demonstrates the mission, vision and goals of the Center.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Reliable in performance of work assignments and following instructions.
  • Ability to function independently, strong attention to detail and accuracy, work under pressure, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work with diverse client population with potential exposed to COVID-19.
  • Ability to work at the time and location assigned.
  • Observes policy on confidentiality and corporate responsibility.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment as demonstrated by the ability to handle patient situations and requests for assistance as needed, related to COVID-19.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of current standards, federal regulations, state statues and other regulatory agencies related to COVID-19
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a healthcare environment involving intake/registration.
  • Training and/or experience as a medical secretary preferred.
  • Medical and insurance terminology preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $14.00 - $14.37 per hour
