Description: The Credit Specialist performs a wide variety of consumer lending and administrative functions, including delivering financial education workshops three to four times per month. Under limited supervision, the Credit Specialist will be responsible for efficiently performing all tasks involved in the daily operation of processing (from intake to funding) DriveForward Vehicle and Lending Circles loans, and referring other financial services to our participants. In addition, some evenings and Saturdays will be required to lead financial workshops and to accommodate participant work hours when conducting one-on-one budget/credit evaluation meetings. This is a professional position, which interfaces with the public and program partners, such as financial institutions, government agencies, funders and other community based non-profit organizations.

  • The Credit Specialist will be operating out of our San Jose office location, but may also work periodically at our San Mateo office, depending upon workload and staffing needs at each location.
  • Work with participants to assess their qualification for all Financial Empowerment Programs, including the DriveForward Vehicle and Lending Circles loan programs.
  • Deliver financial education workshops three to four times each month.
  • Meet one-on-one with participants to accept and review loan application documents, develop a detailed income/expense budget, and review their credit report history.
  • Process loan inquiries and applications through all phases, from initial information intake to submission to the Loan Committee or Loan Officer for an approval/denial decision.
  • Coordinate, attend, and present applications to Loan Committees and Loan Officers.
  • Facilitate loan closings at any of our local financial institution partner branch locations.
  • Some evening and Saturday support will be required each month.
  • Flexibility to work at both the San Mateo and San Jose office locations.
  • Conduct participant outcome surveys, as well as generate reports compiling this data.
  • Must respect the confidentiality of all participants.

Requirements:

  • Some college preferred.
  • Strong financial literacy and 2+ years of financial services background a plus.
  • Prior experience working with low-to-moderate income families and diverse populations facing financial barriers a plus.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed, and must demonstrate non-judgmental professional decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision, and take initiative in an efficient manner.
  • Reliable transportation to commute to various meeting locations throughout San Mateo County and Santa Clara County (applicable mileage reimbursable).
  • Bilingual\/Bicultural Spanish-speaking a plus.
  • Effective presentation skills, disseminating information to both large and small groups.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload and deadlines.
  • Adapt at utilizing various electronic databases, from intake to ongoing program tracking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Other tasks as may be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $29.87 per hour
