JOB SUMMARY: Performs general custodial duties and maintains the cleanliness of County grounds and buildings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Picks up trash and debris in and around County Buildings.
• Sweeps, mops, waxes, and strips floors.
• Cleans and washes windows within County Buildings.
• Vacuums and dust offices regularly.
• Cleans and washes walls and baseboards.
• Replaces light bulbs as needed.
• Cleans and disinfects bathrooms; maintains with proper supplies.
• Mixes, uses, and stores cleaning chemicals that could prove hazardous if not properly handled.
• Receives oral and written work orders concerning job assignments.
  

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs other related duties as required.
  

PERSONNEL SUPERVISED: None

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and requires handling and occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

• Some knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
• Good knowledge of safety practices necessary for janitorial functions.
• Good knowledge of the proper procedures for the use and handling of cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret MSDS instructions when using hazardous chemicals.
• Skill in the operation and use of cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners and floor buffers.
  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Visual acuity is sufficient to observe building conditions.
• Digital dexterity is necessary for equipment operation.
• Capable of frequent walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending.
• Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.
  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of school coursework sufficient to provide reading ability; some experience performing manual labor, custodial, or related duties; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
