DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS MISSION STATEMENT:
Provide the community with quality services, maintain and improve our public infrastructures and facilities, and support the preservation of Marin’s unsurpassed beauty.
The Custodian works under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor and is responsible for custodial and light maintenance work in one or more of the County’s 16 facilities. Custodial duties include:
Removing trash from offices.- Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and replenishing paper products and soap.
- Cleaning partitions, walls, and trash containers.
- Sweeping and scrubbing floors, removing gum and graffiti, and dusting.
- Conducting set up of tables and chairs, conducting furniture moves and removing old fixtures and furniture.
- Conducting security checks of the buildings.
- Monitoring equipment such as floor buffers, vacuums and extractors, cleaning used equipment and performing light repairs to equipment.
Our Highly Qualified Candidate: Our highly qualified candidate must be proficient in all aspects of custodial services, and be experienced in the practices, procedures, and tools associated with custodial maintenance tasks. Experience with high and low-speed floor buffers, extractors and vacuums are highly desirable. The candidate must be able to exercise sound, independent judgment, be detail-oriented, and flexible with scheduled routes. The ideal candidate is able to work independently with little supervision, has personal and professional integrity and possesses initiative. The ideal candidate must have excellent oral communication and organizational skills.

Typically, equivalent to one (1) year of recent full-time custodial experience in commercial buildings and/or facilities that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and ability requirements as listed in the class specification.
License:
This job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver’s license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history. Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license is required and a satisfactory driving history record as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles is required at the time of selection interview.

Testing and Eligible List: Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination process may consist of a highly qualified review, supplemental application screening, skill testing, online assessment, written examination, practical performance, oral examination or any combination to determine which candidate's names may be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions that may occur in this assignment while the list remains active. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six (6) months.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice and FBI LiveScan background check prior to appointment.
Important Information: Depending on work assignment and applicable State or Federal Public Health Order, some employees may be required to be fully vaccinated and/or consent to weekly COVID-19 testing. To help mitigate transmission, masks are required for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, in certain workplace settings per the California Department of Public Health and masks are strongly recommended by the Marin County Public Health Officer in all other settings.
Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
