The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position of Custodian in the Facilities Management Division. The incumbent is responsible for spaces for ensuring assigned areas are properly prepared for day to day operations. Work hours for this position are scheduled from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm and may occasionally include scheduling beyond normal work hours.

Duties include but are not limited to

• Collecting trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces
• Sweeping and mopping floors and vacuuming carpets
• Washing and sanitize commodes, sinks and restrooms and restocking disposables
• Wiping mirrors and windows
• Maintaining outer premises and cleaning entrances
• Utilizing insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests
• Performing maintenance and minor repairs as needed
• Reporting major damages and overseeing repairs
• Securing facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarms where required
• Disposing of hazardous cleaning chemicals and materials properly
• Operating floor maintenance equipment
• Maintaining floors to include cleaning, stripping, waxing, etc.
• Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• Education sufficient for satisfactory job performance
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• No experience required
• One (1) year related experience preferred
• An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

Preferred Qualifications:

• A current and valid driver's license is highly preferred and may be required to perform some duties of the position
• Experience with floor maintenance

Using equipment properly such as buffing machines, wet vacs, weed eaters, hand tools, air blowers, mopping equipment, dusting equipment, etc. Working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
