Detroit Speed Inc. is seeking a skilled wiring technician for our hotrod/custom shop. Candidate should be a well-rounded electrical installer/harness builder as well as have good general knowledge of all automotive systems. It is preferred that this person is an automotive enthusiast at heart with the skills, knowledge, and passion to build cars at the highest level.
Essential functions:

• Scratch build vehicle wiring harnesses to include engine and transmission systems
• Coordinate integration of electrical components such as push button start systems, power windows and locks, Holley EFI, custom audio equipment, etc. into vehicle builds
• Design, installation, and fine tuning of audio components to include speakers, amplifiers, crossovers etc.

• Install wire terminations, electrical fittings, connector housings, and terminals
• Remove and re-install OEM and aftermarket interior trim or fabricated paneling as needed to access raceways and electronics
• Operate shop tools, and equipment
• Read electrical schematics, pinouts, and diagrams
• Inspect, test, and troubleshoot electrical components and wire harnesses for operation, damage, or safety hazards
• Ensure proper cable management, wire layout, and harness routing
• Heat shrink, loom, and secure harnesses

• Mount and wire supporting electrical components such as modules, controllers, relays, and switches
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Coordinate re-stocking and inventory control of wiring supplies, connectors, and terminals

Requirements:

• MUST BE fluent with automotive wiring diagrams and have ability to build custom wiring harnesses
• Experience with Deutsch, Metri Pack, Weather Pack, and Packard connectors
• Experience using DVOM
• Previous experience as an automotive technician, mechanic, or other related fields
• Knowledge of aftermarket performance components
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Schedule driven and detail-oriented
• Cleanliness and organizational skills are critical
• Skilled in harness assembly and rework with a wide variety of connector types
• Experience interpreting complex wiring diagrams and pinouts
• Fabrication experience is a plus
• Electronic fuel injection tuning experience is a plus
• Automotive or Electrical Trade School a plus
• Holley EFI training can be provided upon hiring
• Ability to create wiring diagrams for finished work
• Restoration and vintage car repair knowledge a plus
