Job Responsibilities:
- Provides security and behavioral management and well-being of all residents during activities, monitoring and/or escorting them in a variety of activities such as wake-ups, bedtime, showers, meals, recreation, classroom work, and assigned work projects.
- Evaluates residents continually, recording all behavior changes and incidents.
- Assures residents receive appropriate and acceptable discipline in a consistent, fair and respectful manner.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises residents in structured free time, including organizing and facilitating group activities such as sports, games, movies and conversations.
- Finds creative ways for youth to release stress and tension.
- Plans non-traditional and non-competitive recreational activities to promote group cohesion.
- Assigns youth to sleeping quarters at intake and assures understanding of the residents Manual.
- Assesses youths’ interests and aptitudes.
- Plans individual activities according to youth’s interests, when possible and appropriate.
- Responds to problems and emergencies, such as rule infractions, conflict between residents, attempted run away, and illnesses.
- Takes appropriate action and/or disciplines residents as appropriate.
- Notifies Administrative Assistant of supply needs and requests to Director for special activities.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Attends team meeting and training's as scheduled.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Administration of Justice, Education, Social Work or related field required. Must be twenty-five years of age in accordance to Licensing Standards. Two years in the supervision of youth or adults in living unit preferred.
PHYSICAL AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties listed in the job description satisfactorily.
Performs duties in staff secured facility with frequent exposure to strenuous physical effort in the form of physically restraining. Worker is frequently exposed to emotionally and behaviorally disturbed adolescents. Alertness and awareness are required at all times to prevent runaways and potential harm to self, co-workers and residents. Must be able to perform therapeutic crisis intervention physical restraints. A physical exam is required by DCFS.
