Responsibilities
This position performs specimen preparation and provides accurate microscopic screening and interpretation of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens in order to detect and identify the presence or absence of cancerous and precancerous cellular changes and other pathological conditions.
Individuals perform rapid on-site evaluations for preliminary interpretations; confirm adequate tissue sampling and successful triaging of specimens for further processing and additional studies. Preliminary interpretations are beneficial in optimizing adequate results for the patient, preventing additional procedures and leading to increased patient satisfaction.

Performs all microscopic evaluations of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens to detect, differentiate and interpret the presence or absence of disease under the guidelines of regulations and laboratory policies.
Responsible for the diagnosing of negative gynecological Pap cases.
Document results in the laboratory information system for each patient case. Maintains absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results. Observes professional discretion with patient information.
Assists with fine needle aspirations, specimen collection, preparation and staining.
Performs rapid on-site evaluations for adequate tissue sampling, preliminary interpretation, and triage of patient samples in order to assist the proceduralist in ensuring an efficient and effective procedure to best support excellent patient care.

Uses knowledge-based expertise in diagnostic testing in order to assess patient history to further triage patient specimens for ancillary tests.
Exhibits good knowledge of current lab standards and process flows. Participates in development of policies and procedures that require change or implementation.
Communicates effectively with other lab staff outside this department.
Assist in quality assurance and proficiency testing activities. This includes federally regulated yearly proficiency testing and continuing education credits required for maintaining certification.

Responsibilities
This position performs specimen preparation and provides accurate microscopic screening and interpretation of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens in order to detect and identify the presence or absence of cancerous and precancerous cellular changes and other pathological conditions.
Responsibilities include; sign out of negative GYN pap cases, screening with diagnostic input on all Non-Gyn cases and abnormal GYN cases prior to pathologist review, patient HPV testing, lab specimen processing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting/ maintenance and knowledge-based decision making.

This position also provides clinicians with accurate results in a timely manner to assist them with optimal patient care. Work situations vary requiring a detail oriented individual with good decision making skills. This position requires high-complexity testing personnel, as defined by CLIA and CAP. Compliance with all high-complexity testing personnel requirements must be maintained.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Graduation from accredited Cytotechnology program
- Individuals will or would have passed the National Cytotechnology exam and obtained ASCP certification.
- Annual proficiency testing as required by federal regulations
- Liquid based training
- Maintains a high degree of continuous learning (at least 36 credits per recertification cycle) through lab educational programs and/or seminars.
- Clear and strong communication skills are needed during rapid on-site evaluations.
Preferred:
- Liquid-based cytology training and certification.
- Surepath training
- ThinPrep training (with imaging)
- Molecular training
- ROSE experience
