JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
The Data Analyst works closely with manufacturing business owners to understand business processes, workflows, and their relationships to current and future solutions. This role is responsible for creating detailed business requirements, maintaining system documentation, and implementing quality software solutions. This role will need to utilize multiple techniques to elicit, document and validate the requirements with all stakeholders. We use a scrum framework to deliver results to our customers, having familiarity to agile process or scrum framework is a plus.
In addition, this position is responsible for keeping databases up and running smoothly with the goal to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the organization, considering both backend data structures as well as frontend accessibility for end-users.
The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, hungry for professional development that demands creativity, adaptability, and self-motivation. To succeed in this role, you should have an analytical way of thinking and be able to explain difficult concepts to non-technical employees.
Major Responsibilities:
Business Intelligence and Reporting (50%)
- Apply data warehouse (DW) and business intelligence expertise to support the technical needs of our internal customers
- Participate in designing a robust BI infrastructure using the Microsoft suite of products to deliver data, reports, and ad-hoc reporting capabilities to business users
- Assist in designing and maintaining ETL solutions to support and maintain our data warehouse
- Create technical documents that outline the purpose, capacity, and guidelines
Business analysis and programming (30%)
- Serve as a liaison between business areas and IT gathering requirements from business functional areas to develop a comprehensive business requirements document.
- Create functional specifications based on business requirements. Regulate and assess changes to requirements and their impacts.
- Support Subject Matter Experts on business processes and systems for their functional area of expertise.
- Create functional and technical specifications for customizations and reports.
Database Administration (20%)
- Monitor database system performance and identifying problems that arise.
- Protect the database against threats or unauthorized access.
- Ensure that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.
- Report on metrics regarding usage and performance.
- Suggest changes and improvements of maintenance or protection plans.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Utilize complex computer operations (intermediate programming in 3rd and 4th generation languages, relational databases, and operating systems) and advanced features of software packages (word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.)
- Knowledge of agile methodologies and the scrum framework
- Advanced knowledge of programming languages, such as C++, C#, Javascript, Python, Ruby; with a preference for more than one of these.
- Experience and strong SQL skills: ability to code complex SQL queries and tune for best performance; create and maintain stored procedures & functions; create and maintain database objects, SSIS, SSRS, SSIS
- Receive very general guidance with respect to overall objectives. Work is usually quite independent of others. Operate within division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.
