Data Architect (IT Architect, E7)
8 hours per day, 12 months per year

Job Summary: Vancouver Public Schools is looking for a qualified
Database & Analytics Architect to design stable, reliable databases and analytics, according to our district’s needs. You will be responsible for developing, testing, improving and maintaining new and existing databases to help users retrieve data effectively. Also, developing data analytics processes and products to ensure accurate and comprehensive data for district decision makers.
As a leader in our IT team, you will work closely with and supervise developers and data analysts to ensure system consistency and industry best practices. You will also collaborate with stakeholders and district management to provide technical support and identify new requirements. Communication, organization and project management skills are keys for this position, along with a problem-solution attitude. This position reports to the IT Director/Chief Technology Officer.
Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our database and analytic systems and team run effectively and securely on a daily basis.
Qualifications:
- 10 years of relevant work experience.
- Applicable certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate, Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert, Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Extensive experience with database technologies and architecture.
- Sound knowledge of best practices in database engineering and data security.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to provide clean data sets to end users, modeling data in a way that empowers end users to answer their own questions.
- Proven work experience as a Database developer
- In-depth understanding of data management (e.g. permissions, recovery, security and monitoring)
- Knowledge of software development and user interface web applications
- Familiarity working with .Net Framework, JavaScript, HTML, Python, JSON, SOAP and Powershell
- Familiarity with Tableau, Qualtrics, Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI and SSRS, Team Foundation Server
- Familiarity with transforming, testing, deploying, and documenting data
- Ability to perform ETL — extract data from sources, transform it, and load it into a centralized repository
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Other requirements:
- Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
- Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects (e.g. up to 50 lbs.).
Essential Functions:
- Design stable, reliable and effective databases
- Optimize and maintain legacy systems including Postgres
- Modify databases according to requests and perform tests
- Solve database usage issues and malfunctions
- Lead developers to improve applications and establish best practices
- Gather user requirements and identify new features
- Develop technical and training manuals
- Provide data management support to users
- Ensure all database programs meet district, compatibility and performance requirements
- Research and suggest new database products, services and protocols
- Build data pipelines between off-site vendor sources and local databases
- Other duties as assigned

Salary range:
New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement. Time Off:
Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave.
- Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
- Personal Leave: 3 days per school year
- Twelve (12) month full-time Pro Tech employees are eligible to accrue ten (10) days vacation at one (1) - five (5) years of service. The accrual days are incrementally improved by five (5) days at the completion of five (5), eleven (11) and twenty (20) consecutive years of service respectively.
