Pay Rate: $20-$24/Hour

Position Overview:
Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) is one of four refugee resettlement agencies in San Diego County, a Department of Justice Recognized organization, and a core partner of the San Diego Rapid Response Network (SDRRN) - a group of 40+ immigrant rights and social service organizations, attorneys and community leaders who educate, protect and assist immigrant individuals and families – including refugees and asylum seekers – with legal support and social services. JFS has a large Immigration Legal Services Department (ILSD) where it not only coordinates the legal services for SDRRN, but also has a large team of lawyers, DOJ accredited representatives, and support staff working on a wide range of services for low-income and vulnerable immigrants in San Diego and Imperial counties. This position will work within the ILSD team at JFS. The ILSD team specializes in removal defense, family-based petitions and applications, administrative relief, naturalization, and humanitarian relief. The ILSD team has experience and regularly practices immigration law before Department of Homeland Security (DHS), such as with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Border Patrol (BP) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as well as before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) at the San Diego, Otay Mesa and Imperial Immigration Courts and Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The ILSD team also represents clients in relevant immigration matters before San Diego Superior Court on simple post-conviction relief and probate guardianship matters. The ILSD is also the legal service provider which coordinates the Higher Education Legal Services (HELS) program at 2 CA State Universities – San Diego State and CSU San Marcos, in addition to 9 community colleges in San Diego and Imperial counties.
Under the supervision of the Directing Attorney, the Data Specialist will be responsible for providing support with data entry, preparing reports for funders, assist with implementation of data quality policies and procedures, and administrative support to the Immigrant Legal Rights Program (ILRP). The Data Specialist must have the skills and experience listed below.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Directing Attorney, the Data Specialist will be responsible for the following:
- Supports the day-to-day Immigrant Legal Rights Program (ILRP) operations within the client management databases. Including user-support, troubleshooting, problem-solving, data quality management and audits, audit reporting, general reports and data entry.
- Provides in-depth knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the client management databases and provides technical assistance to JFS staff.
- Provides required information to ILRP team, Immigration Legal Services Department’s leadership team, funders, and other key stakeholders, on a weekly basis in addition to what is required by grant agreement terms.
- Data reconfiguration for the purposes of batch/bulk import/export between multiple data sources to client management databases.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams and assists in preparing reports, data integrity, program and client statistics and compliance information.
- Assist with preparation of billing forms and payment tracking for funders that require billing per service.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee and client information as required by the State Bar of California.
- Assist team with data entry for ILRP cases, if needed.
- Provide support to ILRP team with completion of basic case forms, if needed and capacity allows it.
Skills/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
- Associate degree or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
- Experience with a client management database such as ETO, Salesforce, Apricot, Iris, etc. (ETO preferred).
- Previous experience with operations performance management and support and/or program evaluation a plus.
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented and ability to understand the big picture.
- Ability to learn and utilize new computer applications.
- Ability to organize, summarize and analyze data sets.
- Ability to deal with complex problems involving several variables and to apply common sense and critical thinking to solve problems within scope of authority.
- Enjoys working both with data and with people.
- A demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure.
- An ability to work both independently and in a group and with a team.
