Dental Assistant Position Summary : Assist dentist in examination and treatment of patients. Perform a variety of chair-side and clinical support functions. Prepare treatment operatory, position instruments and equipment. Monitor patient comfort. Assist in maintaining treatment records and maintaining operatory equipment and instruments.
Dental Assistant Duties & Responsibilities :
- Establish reason for visit and instruct patient on preparation for dentist's examination.
- Stock and prepare operatory according to dentist's specifications.
- Assist with various prosthetic and restorative procedures to include impressions, evacuation, retraction, cementation and homeostasis.
- Assist with mixing various types of materials; dispense, set-up and assist with nitrous oxide and electro surgery.
- Assist patients in need of help, i.e. handicap, pediatric, etc.
- Monitor clinical equipment and materials; maintain cleanliness in clinic area.
- Monitor proper infection control techniques.
- Maintain supply and inventory for operatory.
- Review patient charts for completeness, as well as order processing for referrals, x-ray, etc.
- Collect clinic encounter forms at the end of each session and forward to billing.
- Provide back up for co-workers, when needed.
- Work collaboratively with the dentist for the coordination of quality dental care to the clinic's patients.
- Inform scheduled patients of any delays due to dentist's lateness, emergencies, schedule backup, etc.
Dental Assistant Position Requirements : Education* : High school Diploma or GED and completion of an approved dental assistant course.
- Experience : One year of experience.
