Job Purpose & Position Overview
This position is under direct supervision of the Dental Director to provide assistance to patients that need dental care as well as assist with day-to-day business operations. The primary function would be to assist the front desk in the areas of data entry and prior authorizations. The secondary duties would be to fill in the clinic as a Dental Assistant in times of need.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensures the completeness of data entry in regards to insurances information.
Verifies patient eligibility and dental insurance benefits and obtains prior authorizations
Ensures updated patient information is entered and maintained into patient record
Learns about the coverages of each payer.
Corrects and sends out the insurances from the Batch Processor.
Incumbent assists dentist at the chair side as anticipated or required in all phases of dentistry, utilizing techniques for hour-handed, sit and stand dentistry.
Passes instruments and materials to and retrieves them from dentist; keeps area of operation clear using evacuator, suction tip, and irrigation, retracts tissue, tongue and cheek.
In surgical procedures, maintains aseptic conditions, stabilized tissue for dentist and cuts surfaces.
Performs and following intraoral procedures as directed by dentist, takes preliminary impressions for study models, removed sutures, places and removed rubber dams, performs coronal prophylaxis and applies topical fluoride treatments.
Pours and trims models from impressions and constructs custom impression trays.
Operates dental x-ray equipment to take intra/extra-oral radiographs; develops and finishes film.
Records information as related by the dentist.
Responsible for the proper handling, transferring and sterilization of instruments following OSHA Standards, including sharps potentially contaminated with lethal blood-borne pathogens.
Maintains dental equipment in a clean and operative condition.
Keeps assigned clinic units properly stocked, disinfected and prepared for patient care.
Reception and scheduling duties as needed and all other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties:
Train and implement the Electronic Dental Record
Enter at chair side the electronic data and submit daily.
Clean the sterilizer and processor on a weekly basis.
Set-up additional operatories to prepare for the daily dental procedures.
Be responsible for complex laboratory cases.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
Certified in Dental Assisting from an accredited program.
Certified in Dental Radiography and CPR.
Experience in Front Desk and Billing

Language Requirements:
Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
