POSITION TITLE: Dental Director
ORGANIZATION: Dental Connections
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
Position Purpose:
In its Dental Director, Dental Connections seeks an experienced dental professional with management experience and dentistry knowledge that will advance the organization’s mission. The Dental Director oversees clinical practices and provides clinical leadership to dental and clinical staff. The Dental Director will advise the Executive Director on new policies and programs for consideration to ensure the organization’s objectives are effectively pursued.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Provide hands-on patient care as scheduled each week;
· Supervise and check prophylactic treatments administered by clinical staff;
· Refer patients to specialists as needed;
· Prescribe, prepare, and administer drugs or medicine to patients as needed;
· Develop, maintain and implement formal clinic policies and procedures; guide dentists and professional staff to deliver consistent standards of care according to policies and assuring clinical practices are above reproach and of the highest quality;
· Assist in the recruitment and hiring of dental staff including providing feedback in the interview process, orienting and training new professional staff;
· Evaluate the professional staff to ensure performance goals related to production, clinical quality and regulatory compliance are met;
· Participate in Board of Directors and Leadership Team meetings and annual planning processes to support the objectives of Dental Connections;
· Collaborate with the Director of Operations and other clinic management to ensure smooth operation of clinic and programs including staffing and patient visit ratios, scheduling, advise on facilities and equipment purchases and repairs;
· Represent Dental Connections at community meetings and events, as requested;
· Maintain a minimal knowledge base in the following areas, to support the Clinic Coordinator with the proper management and oversight of these areas:
- Infection Control techniques and Sterilization Protocol
- Exposure control
- Hazardous Communications and Waste Management
- Monitoring Programs
- Equipment Maintenance
- Insurance Acceptance / Procedure Coding
- Referral Sources
· Provide clinical input, supervision, and direction to the staff of the Dental Connections community-based programs (Smile Squad, Nolden Gentry Dental Clinic);
· Direct supervision of General Dentists in conjunction with the President/Executive Director;
· Shared supervision and consultation responsibility over clinical areas/positions that may arise for Dental Assistants or Dental Hygienists;
· Assist Clinic Coordinator with supervision of Dental Assistant and Dental Hygiene students during externship assignments;
· Provide and oversee the direct supervision to Dental Students following the guidelines provided by the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry and Creighton University;
· Assist the Executive Director in evaluating, developing, and upholding policies, including new or revised clinical procedures and workflows.

· 5 - 8 years of hands-on dentistry experience; up to date knowledge of regulations, methods, trends and equipment

· Excellent chair-side manner;
· Clarity and accuracy of writing and verbal presentation and interpersonal communication skills;
· Detail oriented. Effective organizational skills. Meets timetables. Successful working in a fast-paced situation and is self-directed with minimal supervision;
· Desire to expand knowledge from both a clinical and administrative perspective, including management and leadership skills;
Physical Requirements/Functions:
Anticipated hours per week: 40
· Frequent lifting and carrying weights ranging from zero to 50 pounds.
· Minimal bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping, frequent standing, minimal climbing and reaching above shoulder height.
· Good vision and hearing, ability to communicate/understand and perform job duties.
· Ability to be mobile throughout required work areas, including within network and community events.
· Working from home is allowed as needed.
Mental Requirements:
This position requires the mental capabilities to learn, comprehend, and communicate both orally and in writing. Independent decision making and problem-solving abilities are required to coordinate events and recruit and manage volunteers. Logical thinking, the ability to manage multiple tasks and accomplish them on time.

Pay: $160,000.00 - $226,000.00 per year
