General Purpose:
This position is responsible for supporting the development efforts of Fresno Chaffee Zoo through a variety of proactive fundraising and administrative tasks. Under the direction of the Director of Individual Giving, this role will manage a portfolio of donors in categories including: individuals, corporations, and foundations. This is a mid-level front line fundraising role in a busy and detail-oriented advancement operation that includes: development, marketing, communications, and design studio.

  • Manage donor communications such as: letters, emails, phone calls, text messages and database entries
  • Proactively manage portfolio of donors including recommended gift solicitations
  • Meet all assigned financial goals
  • Coordinate donor meetings with DIG and CDO and prepare all meeting materials
  • Maintain all assigned donor’s records in database and frequently prepare reports to show moves management progress toward next gifts
  • Compose and edit grant proposals, reports, letters of inquiry, and other fundraising materials
  • Conduct prospect research and develop research profiles on prospective donors
  • Escort donors on Zoo grounds as needed and coordinate donor visits 364 days a year
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of development experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills required. Bilingual (Spanish or Hmong) communication skills a plus – writing sample will be required
  • Experience with AP writing style and proofreading preferred
  • Experience with donor database preferred
  • Ability to work evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays when necessary

  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken information to others in individual and small group settings.
  • Hand and finger dexterity sufficient for typing and other administrative tasks.

Work Environment

  • This position regularly works with others including Zoo executives and employees.
  • The position primarily functions indoors, with frequent exposure to outdoor Zoo environments and external events.
  • Occasional local travel may be required.
