We are hiring compassionate, hard working, friendly and reliable Direct Support Professionals to work with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. (I/DD). If you don't have previous I/DD experience, we'll provide training!
Do you have room in your home and heart to support an adult or child with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities? Are you able to support an individual to be successful at home, work and in the community? If so, you may find fulfillment in the role of Alternative Family Living (AFL) Professional Caregiver.
We are looking for caring individuals who share our dedication to providing a supportive environment for persons with intellectual and /or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) in their home. We ask that you bring a desire to serve others and share your home, and ABC will provide the training and support to ensure your success.
ABC is a provider of comprehensive, person-centered services for individuals living with I/DD. ABC is pleased to offer high-quality AFL services throughout North Carolina. AFL offers adults and children with I/DD the option to live in a natural home setting with a professional caregiver to support them in reaching personal goals and living the life they choose. ABC professional caregivers report that their lives and the lives of their families are enriched by this opportunity. ABC is a reliable provider with decades of experience serving individuals with I/DD and our AFL services are supported by a strong team of professional and administrative staff. We are typically able to make AFL placements quickly and support individuals with a wide variety of needs.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma/GED
- 18 years old or older
- Ability to pass a criminal background check, Healthcare Registry
As an AFL caregiver you will be asked to provide support for individuals with disabilities in a home setting. You will be asked to provide the supports identified below based on the needs of the individual in your care:
- Seek to understand the individual in the context of their personal history, their social and family networks, and their hopes and dreams for the future.
- Support the individual in eating nutritious meals and snacks consistent with dietary needs, resting (by providing sleeping accommodations), daily self-care activities, leisure/recreation, education and working. Supports are provided according to the person’s abilities and interests while ensuring privacy and dignity.
- Prepare, teach and assist the person in food preparation, and cleaning of the home.
- Honor the choices, preferences and culture of the person you support.
- Assist in providing opportunities for social, emotional and spiritual needs to be met.
- Assist with transportation and scheduling of all medical, therapy, vocational and recreational activities.
- Ensure that the home environment is safe and in good condition.
- Implement services and supports to address goals identified through the Person Centered Plan. This includes medical, psychiatric, recreational, spiritual, and emotional needs.
- Assist the person supported by attending treatment team meetings and facilitating communication related to individual needs, response to service and supports, and progress toward goals.
- Participate in supervision as agreed upon in the ABC supervision contract.
