Emergency Support Staff (ESS)

Full-Time/40hrs/Non-Exempt/$19.95 - $24.15 per hour (DOE)

Pay differentials offered - must qualify through testing or verification for the following special competencies.

• Language Translation - Bi-cultural Spanish ($1.00 per hour)

• Bimodal Bilingualism - ASL Sign Language - Interpret from American Sign Language (ASL) to English, and English to ASL. ($1.00 per hour)

Provide adequate and appropriate supervision and care for the child placed in the emergency shelter care program. Assess the child(ren) for immediate needs, including medical, food, and clothing. Provide comfort to a child(ren) and evaluate the child(ren) emotional state. Prepare the child(ren) for foster care, such as explaining what a foster home is based on the child(ren) age/cognitive ability. ESS staff will support a child(ren)/youth who may have had previous adverse childhood experiences and work to decrease traumatic aspects associated with the detention process. Must provide valid CA driver's license vehicle insurance and registration. Must have 2 years of driving experience. Must pass fingerprint background through DOJ, FBI, CAC, pre-employment physical & TB before hire, mandated reporter. Must be able to provide written verification of experience upon hire. Salary is based on experience & educational credentialing. Bilingual preferred, not required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position may work within ALL other agency programs, consistent with their scope of practice, on a as needed basis. In addition, may require occasional flexible work schedule to meet the individualized needs of each client.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CA Driver's License, Current Auto Insurance, Clean DMV Printout, clear background check w/ DOJ, CACI, FBI, CPR and First Aid Certified. TB Test and Physical at the time of employment.
