Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio/Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio is seeking a mission-minded Associate to join us as a full time (37.5 per week) Director of Surgical Services.
SUMMARY
Responsible for the strategic goals and coordination of the operations and financial position of the PPGOH surgical centers. This includes direct supervision of surgical services practice managers. Responsible for achieving and maintaining surgical center productivity and budgetary goals, compliance and safety standards, as well as ensuring access and delivering an exceptional patient experience. Develops and implements new initiatives and/or policies and operating procedures within the surgery centers/department as necessary. All activities are carried out in communication and coordination with the Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Medical Officer.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates surgical services programs in coordination with Vice President of Patient Services, Chief Medical Officer, Director of Nursing, Director of Patient Services, Director of Compliance and Risk Management, and other department leaders as appropriate.
- Provides oversight of surgical service operations to ensure optimal service delivery and to assure safe, equitable care for PPGOH patients, leading to quality health outcomes.
- Manages all surgical services vendor relationships and service contracts.
- Provides supervision and guidance to Surgical Service Practice Manager(s) to include: hiring and onboarding of new staff in partnership with the Clinical Training Team, Chief Medical Officer and the Director of Nursing.
- In collaboration with the Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Medical Officer defines surgical services productivity goals to meet budget, standardize operating procedures, and determine appropriate staffing levels. Ensure both PPGOH surgical centers are staffed according to agreed staffing model and stays in line with the budget.
- Communicate clear expectations, KPIs, quality improvement procedures, and working in compliance to internal policies and the law for the operation of surgical centers including evaluation and written corrective actions as appropriate.
- Develop effective management systems, in conjunction with the VP of Patient Services and Chief Medical Officer, which sustain productivity and financial solvency of surgical centers.
- Maintain patient-centered operations that maximize access, minimizes wait times, ensures efficient patient flow and meets productivity and volume goals that meet or exceed the surgery centers budget.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Training Team on development of clear workflows and new processes to include streamlining assessment and determination of patient funding and practical support and consistently train on and reiterate best practices.
- Serves as a resource for other departments and maintains a close working knowledge of federal, state, and local issues and service/program operations specific to surgical services regarding operational workflows, service and financial trends, legal mandates and patient satisfaction; supports Practice Managers and Physicians in effectively managing opportunities in these areas.
- Maintain a detailed understanding of and ensure compliance with all applicable PPFA standards as well as federal, state and local regulations pertaining to the operations of ambulatory surgical facilities and abortion care, including but not limited to OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA and ODH and their state mandated reporting requirements.
- Manage quality of patient services and attainment of appropriate quality standards by ensuring surgical center and patient care audits achieve at least a 90% compliance rates. If compliance rates fall below the 90% compliance threshold, develop and implement written corrective action plans in consultation with VP of Patient Services, CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER and Director of Compliance and Risk Management, Practice Managers and Physicians as appropriate.
- Perform regular site visits to closely monitor and audit to assess adherence to standardized workflows, efficiency and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Monitor and ensure the surgery centers are operating consistently in a state of compliance and readiness for ODH and other regulatory body site surveys and that the surgery center practice managers and team members are well trained to handle these site surveys as they arise.
- Perform or coordinate surgical services audits as assigned and review detailed findings with the surgery center practice managers.
- Prepare, communicate and facilitate the ASF Committee meetings to ensure clear documentation and accountability around QAPI activities, regulatory compliance, patient experience, and access/KPIs are being met and maintained.
- Is a member of the ASF Governing Body and supports the Chief Medical Officer in coordinating and facilitating the meetings and subsequent action items to be in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate with the Patient Services Leadership Team in strategic planning, goal setting, budgeting process and coordination of services. Works in partnership with management team members to identify new and additional funding for established and new programs.
- In coordination with the Care Collaboration Team, identify opportunities for the PPGOH surgery centers to develop or provide support to patients by collaborating with diverse organizations, establishing formal partnerships or informal referral networks and assessing additional ways to enhance patient support.
- Monitor, address, and report patient complaints in accordance with agency policy and processes with a focus on service recovery, safety, and risk management.
- Serve as a liaison between community partner organizations and PPGOH to facilitate ongoing communication.
- Understand, commit to, and practice an equitable, patient-centered approach to care delivery.
- Attend organizational meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars as necessary, to represent PPGOH as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- R.N. or B.A./B.S. plus five years proven leadership and management experience. Graduate degree preferred. Additional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with abortion services and experience in health care management is desirable.
- Experience managing ambulatory surgical facility and familiarity with Ohio ASF regulatory requirements desirable.
- Bilingual skills/bicultural knowledge preferred.
- Requires strong leadership, supervisory and organizational skills and the ability to foster a team based approach to patient care.
- Frequently works with confidential and/or sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times.
- Experience demonstrating good communication skills, trustworthy nonjudgmental manner, and ability to work with individuals of a diverse socioeconomic background.
- Ability to establish rapport among a variety of internal and external constituents.
- Commitment to health equity and Planned Parenthood's mission, pro-choice philosophy, strategic plan, goals and objectives.
- Ability to demonstrate a professional and positive image of organization and self.
