Job Title: Part-Time/Full-Time Band Director
Department: Fine Arts
Reports To: Upper School/Middle School Principals and Fine Arts Director
Summary:
Prince of Peace Christian School is seeking a passionate and talented Part-Time/Full-Time Band Director to join our school community. As the Band Director, you will be responsible for instructing and leading the band program for students in grades 4-12. This is a part-time position with the possibility of expanding to full-time if teaching other courses. Prince of Peace Christian School is a faith-based institution, and the Band Director will play an integral role in nurturing the spiritual growth of our students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach instrumental music to students in grades 4-12, focusing on the development of individual musical skills, ensemble performance, and music theory.
- Plan, organize, and deliver engaging and effective band rehearsals, lessons, and performances, fostering a love for music and inspiring students to reach their full potential.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports students' academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum that aligns with national and state music education standards, as well as the school's Christian values.
- Collaborate with other music faculty members to coordinate performances, concerts, recitals, and other musical events throughout the school year.
- Assess and evaluate students' musical progress through regular assessments, examinations, and performance evaluations.
- Provide individual and group instruction, offering constructive feedback and guidance to students to enhance their musical abilities.
- Foster strong relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community, promoting the importance of music education and the value of band participation.
- Assist with the recruitment and retention of students within the band program, actively seeking opportunities to grow the band department.
- Stay updated with current trends and developments in music education, incorporating innovative teaching strategies and techniques into the band program.
- Maintain and manage musical instruments, equipment, and resources, ensuring their proper care, organization, and storage.
- Adhere to all school policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring the safety and well-being of students at all times.
- Be on campus 30 minutes before the first class and 30 minutes after the last class, regardless of part-time or full-time status.
- Attend weekly faculty meetings to collaborate with colleagues, discuss student progress, and address school-wide concerns.
- Participate in monthly full staff meetings to stay informed about school updates, policies, and initiatives.
- Attend student/parent-related orientations or open houses throughout the year to provide information and support for the band program.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
- Prior experience teaching band to students of varying ages and skill levels.
- Strong knowledge of instrumental music education, including pedagogy, music theory, music history, and ensemble techniques.
- Proficiency in playing and instructing a variety of band instruments, such as brass, woodwind, and percussion.
- Familiarity with Christian values and a commitment to incorporating faith-based principles into the music curriculum.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the capacity to motivate and inspire students to achieve their musical goals.
- Organizational skills to plan and manage rehearsals, performances, and other musical events effectively.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate the needs and interests of students with varying skill levels and learning styles
