The University of St. Thomas, a private Catholic university committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking a Human Resources Director. This position will report directly to the Chief Legal Counsel. The University enrolls more than 3,700 students with its main campus located in Houston's Museum District.


Summary

The HR Director is responsible for leading the HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, policy design, benefits, training, payroll, and compensation. The HR Director will be involved in all operational aspects of the University of St. Thomas- Houston talent lifecycle to provide streamlined and repeatable HR processes that help HR and leaders drive the business. This role develops and implements processes that support our people strategy and optimizes the experience of every stakeholder group.


Essential Functions:

The HR Director is responsible for performing a wide array of tasks. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, policy design, benefits, training, payroll, and compensation
  • Translate the University of St. Thomas HR processes into well-defined projects with focused tools and deliverables, timelines, and clear accountabilities in support of UST priorities and commitments
  • Manage, execute, and evolve all aspects of UST faculty, staff and administrator talent
  • Build strong relationships with UST departments and maintain a well-rounded understanding of key business and people challenges
  • Oversee talent management processes related to performance management to help maximize associate engagement, productivity and focus on results
  • Identify and implement process improvements


Education/Language:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Human Resources or closely related field
  • Must have strong written and verbal skills (English language)

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in Human Resources operations with progressive human resources generalist experience, and benefits and payroll
  • 5+ years supervisory experience in Human Resources
  • University/higher education experience preferred
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable processes and technology solutions to drive PeopleSoft/HR/Payroll operational efficiency
  • The ideal candidate must be committed to Catholic higher education and the University's Basilian mission
  • In-depth understanding of the interrelation of HR processes and tools with a strong proficiency in the functional use of key business applications
  • Highly proficient in MS Office products, most notably MS Excel and PowerPoint; excellent financial modeling and presentation abilities
  • Able to work independently within a small, dynamic team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written), and able to interact across all levels of the organization

Travel:

Some travel, primarily local, may be required to support some business activities.

Working conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
