The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Today, we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and a national office who work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness, both the individuals and the people in their lives. In particular, we work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their families. In addition to being advocates, we educate, we listen, and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns, the range of numerous programs we provide, and our strong public policy.

We currently have an opening for a Director, Information Systems. The Director, Information Systems reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for providing operational leadership and guidance for the planning, design, implementation, and management of NAMI's technology services. These technology services include business and productivity applications, data, mobility, enterprise architecture, technology infrastructure, technology policies, processes and procedures, cybersecurity, and the service desk.

The Director is also responsible for recommendations on the design and configuration of system applications to meet strategic outcomes, investigating and analyzing the feasibility of system requirements and the development of system specifications. They will identify methods and solutions and provide project leadership and management with cross functional teams. They will also perform full supervision of Information Systems staff.

The Director is expected to demonstrate a moderate level of leadership expertise and is expected to collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer to establish strategic direction as well as have a significant depth of technical expertise in IT operations.

The position has a high level of complexity and impact. The Director fills advisory, facilitative and management roles within the organization.

This position can be remote or based in Arlington, VA (hybrid).

Salary Range: $115,000 - $120,000

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a distributed team of software developers, IT specialists, and Salesforce administrators. Deploy empathy with team members and NAMI staff to understand and respond to staff needs and concerns.
  • Supervise information systems staff including hiring, training, evaluating, and mentoring. Guide and provide direction to information systems staff, contract staff, and interns. Determine appropriate coverage for all hours of operation.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of NAMI enterprise applications (Salesforce, Office 365, Zapier, WordPress, Quorum, etc.), technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, mobility, and other technology services.
  • Work with and manage external vendors to assist development and support activities.
  • Establish and implement operational policies and procedures; identify key performance indicators; drive continuous improvement in operational execution.
  • Establish guidelines and methods for the implementation, integration, and management of applications. Oversee the development of system and application implementation plans, custom scripts, and testing procedures to ensure business systems enable and support NAMI's goals.
  • Develop and test procedures to maintain security and protect systems.
  • Develop and coordinate projects and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts. Provide leadership in planning and implementation of projects for enterprise applications, technology infrastructure, cyber security, and other technology projects.
  • Be available to perform off-hours work or software deployments as needed.
  • Develop tools, procedures, and training sessions for all staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8 - 10 years' work experience in the design and delivery of complex software systems, plus the ongoing operations and support of these systems.
  • Experience with Office365, Salesforce, learning management systems, content management systems, and low-code/no-code platforms.
  • Professional experience with programming languages required (PHP, JavaScript, Python, or Ruby preferred). Experience with Laravel or Ruby on Rails a plus.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies & procedures.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical staff.
  • Establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust, and credibility.
  • Respond to emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Must pass background check.
