Title: Director, New Business Development

Job Summary:
The Director of New Business Development will lead the development of opportunities to expand distribution in new and underpenetrated channels, customers, and distributors and build a One Newell New Business Development Capability. This individual ensures steady business growth through driving and managing business development activities in line with OGSMs and organizational strategy. This position will work closely Segment Category Strategy & Planning, local sales teams and center of excellence partners including Data & Analytics, Commercial Finance, Business Strategy, and Category Development, Omni Enablement Sales Operations and Supply Chain to unlock ~$100MM in annual core sales growth at accretive gross margin levels.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead annual Pan-Newell landscape assessment, identifying white space opportunities for profitable revenue growth. Focus is on establishing new customers and expanding Newell portfolio in underpenetrated customers
- Partner with Business Strategy, Category Leadership and Shopper Insights leaders to monitor industry, economic business trends and apply knowledge in timely and effective manner
- Develop an annual sales funnel in partnership with Business Strategy, Category Leadership, Segment Customer Strategy, Sales & Planning and local customer teams
- Identify, qualify and track targeted opportunities to achieve growth with new targeted customers or business in alignment with segment and business growth plans
- Grow and maintain a pipeline of viable prospective new customers and associated opportunities through competitive intel, relationship building, and participation in segment meetings, critical customer meetings, and key industry trade events
- Work with internal cross functional partners to direct and guide the development of business plans, reports and presentation materials to assist in the execution of business development plans
- Provide counsel and final approval of new business assortment, merchandising and pricing strategies to ensure channel readiness and accretive contribution to Newell
- Design and articulate customer solutions in partnership with segment and strategic customer leaders to new and existing customers. Lead and/or support customer sell-in of top annual priorities
- Build a One Newell New Business Development Capability including the processes, technology, assets and resources needed to ensure sustainable revenue contribution
o Newell New Business Sales Funnel development
§ Use of technology to improve workflow, project tracking, realization of value
§ Integration with Newell Operating Rhythm (MBRs\CBRs)
o Customer Engagement & Retail Experience that sells Newell vision for new business development with our customers
§ Explore establishing a Newell Innovation Showroom
§ Develop a Mobile Innovation Showcase that can travel to customer locations
o Standard Customer Setup Toolbox (Supply Chain, Order Management, Adherence to Newell Terms & Policies, on-going sales and sales support structure)
o Partner with Brand Marketing center of excellence to build Newell Best-in-Class Innovation Launch Toolbox to support Segment Planning and execution of Innovation Initiatives (i.e., Market sizing, Sell-in Management, Year 1 launch planning)
o Host Monthly Community of Practice meeting with Segment Business Development Resources
Primary Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- 12-15 years of successful cross functional, customer-facing leadership experience within the consumer products and retail industry
- Demonstrated experience securing significant new business and leading conceptual selling opportunities
- Working knowledge of eCommerce, category management, supply chain, strategic planning and implementation
- Experience and relationships across multiple retail channels and distributors
- Possesses exceptional knowledge and business relationships with senior level executives
- Strong demonstrated record of problem solving and priority setting
- Strong demonstrated history of achieving tough and demanding goals
- Demonstrated history of developing collaborative relationships; comfortable and effective working in a matrixed environment
- Persuasive communication and listening skills with the ability to adjust style to effectively interact with external customers and internal staff
