About this position
The director of facilities is responsible for supervising and training the agency’s maintenance and custodial employees. This role will ensure that the agency’s offices and sites provide a clean, safe environment for staff, children, and families and that all systems run efficiently and are well maintained.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team and with agency staff, community partners, and vendors. As a director, this role must be agile and adept at managing multiple priorities simultaneously. We are looking for someone who is a resourceful, problem-solving, strategic thinker with an upbeat, positive attitude and is eager to support the agency’s mission and achieve its strategic goals.
What you’ll be doing
- Effectively managing the Facilities Department workload, including support requests, regular maintenance and repairs, custodial services, etc.;
- Developing and implementing facility maintenance plans to ensure all locations are kept in good condition;
- Working with leadership to identify and prioritize facility needs;
- Managing the facility budget and ensuring that all expenses align with agency expectations;
- Collaborating with other departments to ensure that facility projects align with agency goals;
- Locating, evaluating, negotiating, and managing rental/lease agreements and renewals for agency facilities;
- Developing and soliciting bids and supervising contracts for the renovation or construction of facilities;
- Coordinating inspections and obtaining and maintaining building permits, fire permits, health permits, or other facility authorizations;
- Participating in the process of obtaining facility licenses from community care licensing authorities;
- Managing replacement process and maintenance for signage at all offices and sites, ensuring that the agency’s branding is enforced and represented in a professional manner;
- Managing the agency’s safety and risk management program;
- Maintain list of resources and service providers and arrange for utility services at agency offices and sites;
- Planning and implementing an energy efficiency program;
- Maintaining equipment inventory and warranty files;
- Managing the equipment repair process, including overseeing service contracts;
- Managing facility security systems to ensure a safe environment for all children and staff, including effective key control systems;
- Representing the agency in a professional manner with community organizations, community partners, and potential and contracted vendors;
- Facilitating an emergency response plan for the agency’s office and sites;
- Assisting the chief financial and administrative officer as needed;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field;
- Five to seven years of experience in facilities management and maintenance;
- Experience managing facility budgets and expenses;
- Strong leadership skills;
- Excellent communication and problem solving abilities;
- Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
- A California driver’s license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance.

Job specifications

Salary
- $110K to $135K per year
- Expected starting salary: $120k per year
